After Bihar, SIR in 12 states and UTs in phase 2; to cover 51 crore voters

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has announced the rollout of the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)
.. to update electoral rolls across 12 states and Union Territories. The initiative follows the successful completion of the first phase in Bihar, aiming to ensure accurate and inclusive voter lists nationwide.
The CEC said the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) is the ninth such exercise since Independence, with the last one happening in 2002-04.
According to the Election Commission’s schedule:
Enumeration: November 4 – December 4, 2025
Draft electoral rolls publication: December 8, 2025
Claims and objections: December 9, 2025 – January 8, 2026
Hearings for notices: Till January 31, 2026
Final electoral rolls publication: February 7, 2026
“Today we are here regarding the rollout of the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision. I extend my greetings to the voters of Bihar and bow before the 7.5 crore voters who took part in a successful SIR.
The Commission also met election officials from all 36 states and discussed the process in detail," CEC Kumar said addressing a press conference in Delhi.
The Election Commission will conduct the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 12 states and Union Territories (UTs), Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar announced on Monday.
The exercise will be held in the 3 UTs -- Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Puducherry and Lakshadweep,
and 9 states -- Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala,
Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
Among these, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and West Bengal are scheduled to go to the polls in 2026.
He clarified that in Assam, the revision of electoral rolls will be announced separately.
