NNC member Mr Thomas ... always a critic of NSCN-IM now says UNPO was never an appropriate platform for Nagas and also that .....
the Nagas cannot have two names of Nation : Nagaland and Nagalim.
In a statement circulated in social media, Thomas says:
"In 1992, they (NSCN-IM leaders) slipped abroad, and were admitted to the UNPO on January 23rd 1993, and also attended the Indigenous Human Rights Conference in Geneva on 27th July 1993.
"These platforms were not appropriate to admit, for the Naga national issue, because the Nagas are a nation," he said.
He argues quite eloquently -- "Young educated people can understand with the conflict of Russia and Ukraine that the Ukraine will never go to admit the UNPO.
So, Muivah and Isak’s admitting to the UNPO, they belittled the Naga nation, and made the world confused on the Naga national stand as well as at home, the young Naga educated people, who are politically naïve".
On these Muivah-Isak’s activities abroad, Ms Adinno Phizo, NNC President, stated on May 28, 1998, that --- “Muivah and Isak think that they are promoting the cause of the Nagas at the international level, and boast about it, but the outside world has seen their stupidity.
India is using them, knowing well about their ignorance in international affairs and political immaturity”.
Thomas says -- "The Nagas cannot have two names of Nation; Nagaland/Nagalim, two flags, and two Naga national stand in from of the world, such as defending a sovereign nation, and demanding shared sovereignty from India."
Mr Thomas says instead the Naga people should "speak in one voice" ---
on following counts ---
* The Nagas had never fallen into any foreign domination in human history.
** Nagaland was never part and parcel of India and Burma from time immemorial
*** The Nagas had no treaty or agreement with Great Britain to surrender their sovereignty
Nagas did sign any treaty or agreement to join either the Union of Indian or Burma’
The NNC declared the age-old Independence of Nagaland on 14th August 1947, before India and Burma became independent nations.
He further stated: "The NNC conducted the Naga National Plebiscite on May 16, 1951, before India and Burma divided Nagaland in March 1953 without the consent and knowledge of the Naga people.
The Plebiscite was a solemn pledge and final verdict of the Naga people for their future, in that 99.9% of Naga people voted to remain independent, as in ancient times.
The Nagas are, therefore, not demanding shared sovereignty, self-determination or any political status from India or Burma. But seeking the recognition of Nagaland as a sovereign nation by the world".
He strongly made a pitch for 'One name of Nation, Nagaland, and one Naga national Flag, approved by the Tatar Hoho of FGN in 1956'
Under the caption "I disagree with Th. Muivah"; the statement notes:
"Late Tubu Kevichusa, NNC General Secretary, (NSCN-IM Joined with the Indian Army and killed him on June 4, 1996), also stated on August 25, 1995 that “We have been reluctant to publish our opinion on the use of the word ‘indigenous’ as we did not want to hurt the feelings of some of our Naga brothers who think that to be labeled as an ‘indigenous’ people is a big deal.
At the same time, we cannot afford to dilute our National Objective with any other side issues. Hence this publication, with the hope that those of our Naga brothers who have projected the Nagas as an ‘indigenous’ people may have a correct perspective of National Objective".
Because of this he was killed.
"Telling lies and being brainwashed: They brainwashed the young educated people, particularly in the southern part of Nagaland, mainly young Tangkhuls that the Nagas are demanding shared sovereignty from India", says Thomas.
"And the FA (Framework Agreement of 2015) is a great achievement made by the NSCN-IM in history, it recognized Naga sovereignty," he notes adding,
"....also telling lies that the NNC is no more; it had surrendered, the Shillong Accord is an infamous Accord, and so on. Hence, the young learned people do not bother to research historical facts but believe their leader’s words as gospel truth, and call evil good and good evil, they put darkness for light and light for darkness, they put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. (Isaiah 5:20). "
Thomas in fact leaves an embarrassing messaging --
"Even if thousands of Nagas welcome Th. Muivah as a Naga national leader, I have never agreed with him as a patriot Naga national leader like A.Z,Phizo, and will continue to tell the people what the truth is".
The Christian-dominated state of Nagaland is wedged between Myanmar and Bangladesh.
Nagaland in thus a 'native land' or home to a people spread across neighbouring Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and also parts of Myanmar. Muivah has been claiming that his group sought full sovereignty or a "Greater Nagaland" uniting Nagas across borders, especially in Manipur.
But even under legendary Phizo - the name of the 'movement' and the land has been Nagaland.
It's a fact of life that Muivah himself was born at Somdal in Ukhrul in what is now Manipur state.
We all know Muivah's and NSCN-IM's attempt to return home Somdal in 2010, was blocked by the Manipur government under the leadership of O. Ibobi Singh. The then chief minister had played the Meitei card and officially had cited the risk of unrest and a fear that Muivah's entry could threaten the territorial integrity of Manipur.
This time, however, largely due to central government's intervention and the growing age of Muivah - there was no objection either from Meiteis or even Kukis.
Mr Thomas in his statement recounts some historical facts --
"When Th. Muivah, then NNC General Secretary, first introduced socialism by forming the NNC/FGN on the pattern of socialism on August 16, 1976, I, along with most of the NNC/FGN leaders, disagreed with him because we love the Naga traditional democracy and in defence of the existing Nagaland Yehzabo (Constitution).
Nagaland is a Christian nation, and socialism does not match with Nagaland For Christ.
"False accusation: I disagree with him, for killing all the NNC/FGN leaders, and top Naga Army officers for opposing his socialism. But he used the Shillong Accord (SA), for false accusation against them as supporters of the Shillong Accord and traitors.
Because none of the NNC/FGN leader and Army officer deserved to be killed for a simple reason, that they opposed socialism.
Thomas also mentioned about "Falsely using Shillong Accord" by the NSCN-IM
He argues: "The Shillong Accord was not a surrender Accord. So, including the NSCN-IM, and all Nagas are proudly observing the Naga Independence Day, and Plebiscite Day every year, it is now nearly 80 years.
With the celebration Naga National Days, all Nagas admitted that the SA is not a surrender accord, and the Naga nation or the NNC did not surrender.
"Why then, they (Muivah-Isak) falsely used Shillong Accord as a surrender Accord to give a false chargesheet on the dead bodies killed by them more than three months later, instead of admitting the truth that they opposed socialism and were killed".
They started killing on November 27, 1979, and up to January 3, 1980.
"As they admitted that Shillong Accord is not a surrender Accord, they should also admit the truth by now that the leaders who were killed by them, were not traitors.
For such false accusation I cannot tolerate, and will firmly stand for them, telling the truth that they were not traitors."
