This has turned out to be the fate of Congress party and especially Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul.
In normal sessions of Parliament, either these are not uttered them by motive/design or default or the BJP lawmakers kept these stored for such occasions.
Making intervention during the debate on 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' and Constitution Amendment Bill, Home Minister Amit Shah took a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Shah said, "If we are to select one third of seats for reservation who will decide that... Do you say, we should do it. Then what will you do if Wayanad is reserved...then you will say it was a political move. Mr Owaisi similarly if Hyderabad is reserved you will say it's a political reservation".
"Therefore, it is in fitness of things that Delimitation Commission only does it...".
Rahul Gandhi had contested Amethi and also Wayanad - a Muslim dominant seat in Kerala in 2019 after he could sense trouble against vocal BJP leader and Minister Smriti Irani in Amethi.
In other words to survive and remain relevant, Rahul had shifted to Wayanad and analysts say there was possible understanding between the Left parties especially CPI-M and the Congress that Wayanad was almost a guarantee seat for Rahul in 2019. Amethi - the family bastion was abandoned !
But the real potshot during Sept 20, 2023 debate came against former Congress president Nishikant Dubey.
The BJP lawmaker from Jharkhand said Congress MPs including Sonia Gandhi had insulted and thrashed their allies Samajwadi Party in the Well of Lok Sabha in 2011.
"When I talk about the Bill to bring reservation in promotion, all those in these benches will be up on their feet. (Congress minister) V Narayanasamy was presenting the Bill. Samajwadi Party's Yashvir Singh was a Scheduled Caste MP; these people talk about Scheduled Castes and Tribes. Yashvir Singh had snatched the papers from Mr Narayanasamy," he said.
"In this Lok Sabha, Sonia Gandhi had then tried to grab his (Yashvir Singh) collar. I had then told her, 'you are not the dictator here, you are not the queen, you cannot fight here'," Dubey said.
"Mulayam Singh Yadav had then said that his party's MPs would not have been saved if the BJP did not intervene. You tried to murder MPs. Now you have come together in an alliance," he said.
This was one of the hidden episodes of Congress politics. After the unfortunate episode, a few Samajwadi MPs had gone to Lok Sabha TV studio to manage video footage of the same, but they could not find anything.
Union Minister Smriti Irani also took a dig at the Congress party and said while it is true constitutional amendments on panchayati raj were passed during P V Narasimha Rao's tenure; it is also true that the same leader's body was not allowed entry to the AICC headquarters for paying homage to the departed soul.
