2022 polls: Now, BJP 155...Congress 19 and sickularism's new baby AAP - only 6
BJP to cross 150 mark in 182-member assembly. Trends suggest BJP is far ahead of 2002 tally of 127 in Gujarat and Congress's all time best of 149 in 1985.
The Moditva phenomenon is at its best in the just concluded polls in Gujarat and
Himachal Pradesh.
Breaking the trends, BJP may retain power in Himachal Pradesh as the saffron party was leading in 39 seats as against 27 by Congress.
In Gujarat, the BJP set to cross its best 127 mark of 2002 as the party took early leads in 135 seats in the 182-member assembly.
The so-called secular forces -- also called Sickularism - were set for a big setback as the new 'saviour'
AAP of Arvind Kejriwal was leading only in 5 seats and Congress was also in for a shocker with leads just in 40 seats.
A lot of hype was generated around the AAP factor in Gujarat. But the first few rounds of counting shows the Delhi-based
party is yet to make a mark in terms of occupying the opposition space at the national level.
According to initial rounds of counting, the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) efforts to emerge as the third front in a state that has traditionally witnessed bipolar contests between the BJP and the Congress has come a cropper.
If the trends come true, the BJP will be more than delighted and this will give them a major advantage for
2024 polls in terms of Modi's magical vote gathering power.
Many BJP workers said one simple message from Gujarat in 2022 perhaps is that the governance
should be people-centric. It is also important to develop a culture of hard work and help vulnerable
sections like women.
Days of free lunch for some and government Babus, their wives, children, dogs and cronies
are over. If at all, there are some, these too would fade away soon.
Everyone may not agree but this new growing phenomenon has slowly started to discard the politics of
dynastic rights and preferences, say BJP booth workers.
Therefore the rhetoric assertion is - Modi's Gujarat and the 'new India'
also means giving importance to talent, skills and labour.
