New Delhi:
The political battle of one-upmanship has commenced in full swing in Pakistan.
Namo and Imran: None were PM then
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said Prime Minister Imran Khan won't be able to “save himself”.
"The tide has turned… Mr Imran Khan! No matter how much state’s power you use, you cannot save yourself," she tweeted in Urdu.
Maryam's remarks came hours after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested media personality
Mohsin Baig after he resisted arrest and fired shots at an agency team.
The FIA officials had arrived at his residence in Islamabad to take him into custody.
During the arrest, Baig and his son reportedly brandished firearms and opened fire on FIA personnel,
injuring one. Videos of the incident have gone viral social media as well.
She also sought to remind Imran Khan that his rule now resembles the last days of power of Gen Pervez Musharraf,
who in 1999 had staged a coup ousting Nawaz Shaif and was in power for considerable time.
The FIA cyber crime wing had registered a case against media personality Baig at the request of
Communications Minister Murad Saeed.
"Your list of crimes not only includes taking revenge from opponents but also using state institutions
like FIA to settle your personal score. You will be held accountable," Maryam said.
Referring to Imran Khan, she also said that he is not some creature who descended from the skies on
Earth that houses of people will be raided if someone criticises him.
"My mother in ICU should have been given the same respect which you give to your wife... the mothers and
sisters of you political opponents deserve same respect," she lamented.
The PML-N vice president said that PM Imran is indulging in a “dirty game” and also encouraging his
“ignorant ministers” to do the same.
"This is how the fear of people like you comes to fore when they start to lose power. Seeing your actions,
the last few days of Musharraf [former military ruler] era come to mind," she further wrote, reports from Islamabad
said.
Baig was part of a TV panel debate last week which was discussing Murad’s ministry receiving the top
honour in a ceremony conducted by Prime Minister Imran to celebrate the top 10 best performing
federal ministries. The panel had reportedly made "disparaging remarks" about the minister.
The particular TV channel was also served a show-cause notice by the media watchdog, Pemra, reports claimed.
The word of wits between Imran and Maryam Sharif had gone personal in July 2021.
Pakistani Muslim League (Nawaz) leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s
former wife Jemima Goldsmith were engaged in a Twitter battle over Maryam’s “antisemitic attack” on Imran
Khan’s children.
The controversy arose after Imran Khan took a jibe at former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for attending his
grandson Junaid’s polo match in the UK while he was there in 2019 for medical treatment.
Responding to Imran Khan’s remarks about her son, Maryam Sharif had said in a rally that Imran Khan’s children were being “raised in the lap of Jews”.

Two arrested for 'post poll' murder of BJP worker Sarkar in West Bengal
New Delhi
The probe into the murder of BJP leader Abhijit Sarkar in West Bengal has gained further
momentum with the arrest of two absconders.
The CBI on Wednesday apprehended two and the accused were produced before the competent court,
Kolkata and were remanded to two days custody.
The absconders have been identified as Rahul Dey and Sourav Dey.
CBI sources say the two accused were among seven individuals who are absconding after being
accused of Sarkar's murder.
The BJP worker was killed in the post-poll violence in the Narkeldanga area of West Bengal shortly after the
election results were announced on May 2, 2021.
Primarily, around 20 individuals were accused of rioting and violence by the police.
A charge sheet had been filed in the Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sealdah against these
20 accused.
The CBI also had announced Rs 50,000 reward on information about absconders.
"The CBI has declared a cash reward of Rs 50,000 against each and it will be given by the CBI to anyone
who will give information leading to their arrest," read the order from the premier probe agency.
The Sealdah Court also has several cases against the accused persons, namely Arun Dey, Sukhdeo Poddar
alias Sukha, Gopal Das alias Bishal Paul, Saurav Dey alias Guddu, Rahul Dey, Biswajit Das alias
Bompa and Amit Das in the BJP worker's murder case.
It is worth mentioning that the CBI could take over the investigation of the case after Calcutta Hight Court’s
order which was earlier registered at the Police Station of Narkeldanga.
The two have been accused of beating the BJP worker and also vandalizing his house. As per the
charge sheet filed by the CBI, the deceased BJP worker (Sarkar) was rescued after being attacked, however,
he could not be saved owing to the brutal blows.
The Mamata Banerjee-ruled West Bengal government was left red-faced and put on the defensive
following the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) report on post-poll violence in West Bengal last year.
The NHRC report also jad said that "the violent incidents in West Bengal reflects appalling apathy of the state government towards the plight of victims".
Minutes after some of the content of the report submitted to the Calcutta High Court by the NHRC team,
BJP MP Arjun Singh had said, "The BJP stands vindicated of what it has been stating earlier. There is no law and
order in the state of West Bengal under Mamata Banerjee".
The Mamata Banerjee-led dispensation was embarrassed on July 2, 2021 when the five-member bench
of the Calcutta High Court had said: "From a perusal of the report prima facie stand taken by the petitioners
is established that there had been post poll violence and the state was found on a wrong foot, where
throughout it was on a denial mode".
