Priyanka Gandhi's 'poster girl' Pallavi Singh now joins BJP
New Delhi:
There is much irony and self-contradiction in Congress campaign and
election management in Uttar Pradesh.
Pallavi Singh, one of the poster girls for the Congress's hyped 'Ladki hoon Lad sakti Hoon' campaign, has joined the BJP in Lucknow.
Other two such poster-campaign faces -- Priyanka Maurya and Vandana Singh -- also had embraced the
membership of the saffron party.
This also nullifies Congress attempts to woo women folk in the country's most populous state - where it ruled
supreme once, but is now a marginalised party for three decades.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi had hyped it out earlier that her party would give 40 percent
of tickets to women candidates. This would mean about 100 candidates in the 403-member assembly
UP polls.
Ms Vandana Singh joined the BJP on Wednesday. "The party is giving opportunities to only those who
have recently joined. I have worked for the Congress for six years. I was the vice president of the women's wing,"
complained Vandana.
Priyanka Maurya also joined the saffron party after making the same kind of charges against the Congress
leadership.
Rudra Daman Singh was given the Congress ticket in Sarojini Nagar assembly constituency in Lucknow
while Ms Maurya was denied.
In 2017 assembly polls, the Congress party had suffered a setback of as many as 21 seats and its tally dropped
to single digit 7. The grand old party's vote share was a modest 6.25 percent and it had contested
114 seats.
