"There is a vacant slot in your life that can be filled by Deepa", says one ex-beloved to a former boyfriend, and now a civil servant ::: Welcome to new age entertainment and OTT series

Rejection  or the indecisiveness to 'decide' about a good friend being turned into a lover and then transforming the relationship to wedlock is not necessarily a Fiction.

These are part of 'everyday conversation' and living things on a daily basis. These are much explored themes in the web series and OTT that come to you on your mobile and laptops through various Digital channels.

(still from much successful web series - 'Panchayat' )

Take this example from the conversation between Abhilash and Dhaira from the popular series 'Aspirants'. An ex-friend (or a supposed beloved) Dharia tells Abhilash (a civil servant) --

"There is a vacant slot in your life that can be filled by Deepa (the girl Abhilash is showing interest lately)". She also wants to know why Abhilash finds Dharia's 'future husband' - "lucky". He is also categorical -

"Of course he is lucky, he gets everything what he wants".  There is a silent revolution happening on your web series and such digital contents.

Home Shanti

You find things happening in everyday life being screened. That's the best way of telling a story - a new generation story -- without being unusually loud or violent.

For 'Aspirants' actress Namita Dubey, the connection comes down to honesty.

"I think the biggest reason is honesty. .... the characters feel like people you already know. They are not superheroes or flawless figures. They struggle with things most people have experienced at some point in their lives".

Hence you have stories and new OTTs such as Panchayat, Aspirants,

Gullak, The Pyramid Scheme and Sapne vs Everyone Season and a few more.

That's an enormous output for a studio that, on paper, makes shows about nothing very dramatic at all -- a government office, a coaching hub, a cramped middle-class living room.

Stories --- middleclass love --- and live (of course)

*** --

Career uncertainty, family expectations, financial issues, friendship, self-doubt, and the fear of not being good enough.

The massive success of series like Panchayat and Gullak has :solidified heartwarming", regional slice-of-life storytelling as a dominant staple, balancing out the darker action thrillers.

'Home Shanti' in Jio Hotstar is a family comedy-drama that follows the Joshi family as they set out to build their dream home, only to get caught in a series of hilarious and emotional challenges along the way.

Happy Family: Conditions Apply is a light-hearted family comedy-drama that revolves around four generations of the Dholakia family living under one roof, each with their own quirks and contradictions.

'Gullak' is a slice-of-life family drama that follows the Mishra family, a typical middle-class household in small-town India. Starring Geetanjali Kulkarni, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, and Harsh Mayar, the series beautifully captures everyday struggles.

Gram Chikitsalay — Amazon Prime Video

It's a light-hearted rural drama that revolves around a young doctor assigned to a remote village health centre, where he struggles to adapt to limited resources and quirky villagers.
