Pak PM Imran tests positive for Corona: Modi wishes him 'speedy recovery'

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has tested positive for Coronavirus.

"PM Imran Khan has tested positive for Covid-19 and is self isolating at home," tweeted Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to Pak Prime Minister on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination.

In response to a query about when the prime minister can take the second dose of the vaccine, he said: "PM Imran will have to wait for 12 days or until his results are negative. Then he will have to wait for another six weeks after which he should get the second shot."

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tweeted on his part extending good wishes to his counterpart for speedy recovery.




"Best wishes to Prime Minister @ImranKhanPTI  for a speedy recovery from COVID-19," Modi said in a tweet. 

The news of Imran Khan getting corona affected comes two days after the premier received his first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine. His diagnosis was also later confirmed by the Prime Minister's Office.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Health Services in Pakistan clarified that the premier was not "fully vaccinated" when he contracted the virus.

"Prime Minister Imran Khan was not fully vaccinated when he contracted the virus. He only got the 1st dose and merely 2 days ago which is too soon for ANY vaccine to become effective. Anti-bodies develop 2-3 weeks after 2nd dose of 2-dose COVID vaccines. #VaccinesWork" - said a missive from official twitter handle of Pak Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Government of Pakistan.

PM Imran, 68, has been holding regular and frequent meetings lately, including attending a security conference held in Islamabad that was attended by a large number of people.


He addressed the conference without wearing a mask, and attended another gathering to inaugurate a housing project for poor people in a similar fashion on Thursday. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis Zulfiqar Bukhari was also present on the occasion.

Speaking to Dawn.com, Dr Javed Akram — a member of the federal government's Covid-19 task force — said that it was not uncommon for people to become infected with the virus after being vaccinated., according to a report in leading Pakistani newspaper, 'Dawn'.
