Naga youths call for early Political Solution :::: Rally held to Oppose 'Oil Exploration'

The Fed Up Nagas (FUN) a newly floated youth organisation, held a rally at Dimapur on Saturday, June 27th.

The show has been organised under the theme “Hear the Youth. Honour the Truth”.

The event is being addressed among others by representatives of major Naga political groups, including NNPGs. Participants reached the venue well before time amid certain restrictions imposed by the administration.

They carried placards with slogans such as -

'Oil Exploration can wait, the Naga political issue cannot'.

A historic tripartite MoU was signed on June 11 between Petroleum ministry, Government of India, Assam and Nagaland state Govts for facilitating mineral oil operations in the Assam–Nagaland boundary areas.

Home Minister Amit Shah was present on the occasion.

The historic MoU between the Centre, Assam, and Nagaland will open a new economic corridor of energy, investment, and prosperity across the entire Northeast. The vast reserves of oil, gas, and minerals available in Nagaland will help reduce India's dependence on foreign sources for oil and gas.

Nearly 80% of the Northeast has been already 'freed' from AFSPA.

The Modi Government has placed the development of the Northeast at the center of its agenda; and these days -- the region is moving forward with a spirit of ‘Nation First’.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio has informed that, apart from the six designated fields, the State Government has agreed for oil exploration across the entire state.

He stated that the Government of Assam is also in agreement, as this is a win-win situation for all stakeholders.

The Home Minister said that this tripartite agreement will pave the way for mineral exploration and mining across the entire North-East region.

Various Naga organisations have opposed oil exploration at this juncture.

"To siphon off people's wealth in connivance with oil companies is to sabotage the Naga political solution," says conglomerate of 11 groups, NNPG.

In a statement, NNPG (Kitovi group) says - "The NPF leadership, erstwhile NDPP. Has always been uncomfortable with all these developments (peace and solution efforts).

"They claim to be facilitators in words yet they have always played the role of active saboteurs. The devil lies in the details.

"On June 2017, the Honorable Prime Minister of India invited the Naga village headmen and chieftains, the Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation (NGBF) to New Delhi to seek the opinion of Village custodians at the grassroot level.

On the eve of their departure, the NPF (then NDPP) leadership summoned the village headmen, rebuked and advised them against meeting the honorable Prime Minister of India, saying they should exercise their authority in the villages and not in New Delhi."

Sabotaging the peace talks that began in 1997 is a serious charge against the state government headed by regioalist Neiphiu Rio and run in coalition with the BJP.

The NNPG also had stated last week that:

"The NPF led state government is therefore trying its best to curtail and dismantle the traditional power and authority of GBs with fickle labelling of GBs as government employees and extension of the home department.

Evidently, NPF leadership has lost the trust of the people on the ground."

The NNPG statement further says -- "The NPF leadership campaigned for and sought Mr RN Ravi's removal from the interlocutor ship. On September 22, 2021, he stepped down.

The NPF leadership claimed R.N Ravi's removal was the first achievement of the new PDA government. It was, in reality, an act of sabotage."

"The deed of Anti-solution elements. Naga history records this as political treachery," it makes an all out attack.
