Architects of modern India appear to relish the well perceived religious turn into everything.
The Thiruparankundram is a hillock located in Madurai in Tamil Nadu.
It is regarded as one of the six abodes of Lord Murugn. It also houses a Dargah and Muslims assert their claim to ownership.
They are allegedly involved in encroachment activities and tried to rename the hill. Nevertheless, the Madras High Court foiled their plans and have repeatedly ruled in support of the Hindus.
This was recently evident when the court permitted devotees of the Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple to light the traditional Karthigai Deepam lamp at Deepathoon.
However, the ruling DMK disregarded the court order and prevented the devotees from carrying out the directive.
There was a major confrontation with the police. The state government even filed a petition in the Supreme Court to challenge the high court’s decision.
This action sparked significant controversy and backlash from the Hindu community and its organisations.
The DMK on Tuesday submitted a notice with 120 signatures to the Speaker seeking impeachment proceedings against Madras High Court Judge G R Swaminathan.
DMK parliamentary party leader Kanimozhi, the party’s Lok Sabha leader TR Baalu, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra handed the impeachment notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
On Dec 10th, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat expressed his views regarding the Thirupparankundram row.
He declared that the “awakening of Hindus in Tamil Nadu” would be enough to resolve the issue. He added that “if it needs escalation, it will be done but I don’t think it does. That matter is now sub-judice. Let it resolve.”
“The awakening of Hindus in Tamil Nadu, I think it is enough to bring about the desired result. But if at all it is needed, the Hindu organisations are working here in Tamil Nadu also. They will let us know. Then we will think about it,” Bhagwat mentioned.
He claimed that the situation will be sorted out on the basis of Hindu strength in Tamil Nadu and will not necessitate intervention at a higher level. Bhagwat reiterated that the conflict will be resolved in favour of Hindus. “That is definite. We will do whatever it takes for that,” he assured.
The RSS supremo made the statement in response to a question at the “100 Years of Sangh Journey – New Horizons” event.
According to the impeachment notice dated December 9, 2025, the motion was moved under Articles 217 read with 124 of the Constitution of India for the removal of the Madras High Court judge.
The notice alleged that his conduct raised questions on judicial impartiality and transparency, accused him of showing undue favour to a senior advocate and lawyers from a particular community, and claimed that verdicts were influenced by political ideology, going against secular constitutional principles.
