AAP Nagaland unit chief Asu campaigns in Punjab

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Nagaland unit chief Asu Keyho has campaigned for his party for the bypolls in Punjab.
"The Jalandhar bypoll is an important electoral battle. We are looking at it as a curtain raiser to 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Hence I made myself available to my party colleagues for a brief spell of campaigning," Asu Keyho told 'Nagaland Page' here.
The voting takes place on May 10.
In more ways than one the outcome of the by-election to the prestigious Lok Sabha seat can decide the fate of AAP as well as the Congress party and the BJP in north India politics during next year's parliamentary polls.
The by-election has been necessitated due to the sad demise of Jalandhar MP of Congress Santokh Singh Chaudhary during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in January this year.
"Of course, the Jalandhar by-election will be the first electoral test for my party AAP in Punjab though there is a major election in Karnataka. During last few months, the AAP has delivered what it had promised to the people in Punjab and what it could do with limited time and resources. We will do much better in days to come," Asu said.
Asu Keyho, who had defeated Congress leader N T Nakhro from Western Angami assembly segment
in 1998 polls, also said that this is the first electoral test for AAP after "we attained the national party status".
The AAP's performance in 2022 polls in Punjab marked a major political change with the party sweeping the assembly
polls by winning as many as 92 seats out of total 117.
To a question, he said, "As a former Nagaland MLA I could assess that there is a lot to learn from
the governance of Punjab and the administration given in the state by Chief Minister Shri Bhagwant
Mann and under the guidance of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal".
"The discussions with Punjab Minister for Water Resources Pandit Brahm Shankar Sharma Jimpa were very enriching," Asu said.
To another question, he said, "The visit to Wagah border and watching the flag down ceremony by BSF and Pakistani rangers was also something unique to experience. It is a lifetime achievement".
The AAP has 10 Rajya Sabha MP it shall be the first AAP Lok Sabha MP in this House if the candidate is successful in the May 10 polls.
