Now, Polls in Mon district: Nyamnyei battle ready at Moka

"People's demands, hopes are changing fast"

Now that the heat and dust and all rows related to Eastern Nagaland 'possible boycott' have been settled, electioneering has picked up in Mon district along with the rest of the state.

This image reflects 'apathy and underdevelopment' story of Eastern Nagaland

The Moka assembly segment in the Mon district is set to witness an interesting contest.

The NDPP nominee is E E Pangteang, a three-term MLA, NPF nominee is D. Yongnyak Konyak while former Agriculture Minister A. Nyamnyei Konyak will be trying his luck on the NPP ticket.

In 2018, Pangteang was an NPF candidate but he joined the G-21 bandwagon in 2022 and

has been fielded as NDPP candidate.

Maybe as a 'practical' and 'seasoned' player, Nyamnyei understands the issues of being denied an NDPP

ticket. "I have no complaints.Whatever happens, happens for good...," Nyamnyei told 'Nagaland Page',

adding, "I am happy I will be in the fray as an NPP candidate".

Answering a question, he says, "My area is development starved and we have been working for so many years but we are yet to get the desired results. As a senior politician, I am aware of the sufferings of my people. The ENPO has certainly done a good job."

"Yes, the proposed Autonomous Frontier Nagaland Territory or Council should help our people," he notes, adding, "It is Good for the people and as people's leader, I am always with the people. If people are happy I am happy".

To a question, he said, "Look, as a former Congressman, I used to be fond of Late P A Sangma.

He used to joke, 'mor logotey kaam karibi ...(work with me)...it has come true today ... with a difference.

I am a candidate of a party founded by him and now it is being led by his son Conrad Sangma, our party chief".

But he says people's demands and aspirations in Mon district and his remote assembly segment are changing fast. "The new generation has their own ways of thinking and doing things. We have to cope up with their demands".

To a question, the former Agriculture minister said, "Our women are self esteemed but they need empowerment and of course our youths also need adequate empowerment and good education and employment".

"There is more to do. The list is endless, he says, adding "....we will need a proper Health care System, improved educational system, proper roads, electricity and water supply".

"As a former minister, I have seen the other side, people want to be in the fields. We have to find ways and means to boost horticulture and farming. Tourism too has a big scope in our district," says Nyamnyei.

Appreciating the gravity of changing dynamics, he says, "The government jobs have reached saturation point everywhere.... Our new arrangements may help some people, but there will be conditions and various restrictions. This is an era of skill development. We have to do a lot for the same".
