Nagaland elections are festival season. We are almost at the end of these festivities. There were a few unfortunate violent incidents and irrespective of party affiliations all gave a befitting fight. Now the focus is on the most significant of protagonists in this democratic drama - the voter.
The grapevine is that some of these votes have been 'purchased', others will prove the prophets of doom wrong. In Dimapur I, people have reconciled to their fate. Can Northern Angami II shock Nagaland? Will NDPP get their best news on March 2 from Tyui?

In Eastern Nagaland, what would even a single win for NDPP mean in real sense?
Nevertheless, the players were the same - the rich and more rich; and a few from humble stocks. But who knows who has been pulling whose strings?
In Ghaspani I, V Pushika Awomi, reportedly rejected an NPF ticket on the advice of friends and is in the fray as an Independent candidate. In Ghaspani II, JD-U lost Kitoho S Rotokha as he decided to try his electoral luck on LJP (Ram Vilas) ticket.
There were four women candidates --- all could lose and yet people are betting hard for Kahuli Sema of BJP from Atoizu.
There are a few Independent MLAs who could in the ultimate make or break the fate of a so-called stable government. Confident supporters say K Nakhro would make it in Western Angami as Asu Keyho had humbled N T Nakhro (of
Congress) in 1998.
In Southern Angami I also, people are backing Independent Kevipodi Sophie. In Southern Angami II, BJP may do a miracle in Tenyimi belt upsetting NDPP's hidden calculation while another Independent Dr Neisatuo Mero may upset NDPP's Neiba Kronu, a die-hard lieutenant of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, at Pfutsero.
Are we heading towards the emergence of yet another hung assembly? Will the 'power hungry club' get together with old-new combination of G-60 to form a government that will do its best -- what it has been doing last five years -- the non-performance? Opposition-less means free for all; and accountability less.
Come what may, one question is more vital --- the new Assembly should address the basic issues of Peace and Solution. And so, it is more important than the mere survival of the Chief Minister or who else will be his ministers. Will the same ministers take orders from an unelected man?
The new House of course will have the usual mix of social backgrounds and political hues. But the challenges before it would be formidable and diverse.
Will they debate issues seriously? And how long ? Will they allow Chief Minister of Assam decide the fate of
Nagaland and its leadership?
Each of these issues will require an informed response but the roadmap could not be prescribed by political parties simply interested to get a share of power. Either NPF triumphs or gets dissolved will be decided by voters across many segments but much less than 60.
The survival or performance of BJP will be decided by the fact that it holds power in Lutyen's city and that it has a star vote garnering machine called Narendra Modi. The questions before voters about Congress is should they allow it go for yet another round of zero score. For NDPP -- the saviour is Himanta Biswa Sarma and 20:40 formula.
If Modi is blessed to have Rahul Gandhi as the defacto captain of Congress; the NDPP and its leadership is just more lucky. One remembers M J Akbar -- "In Nagaland payments are made for works done in heaven".
Without Amit Shah's blessings, the fragmentation of Chingwang Konyak's party was a real danger. Chingwang and his colleague must have done something vital in past lives.
For voters, the option to make a choice is limited. It is not a fight against S C Jamir or the Congress. For once
it is neither a fight against BJP's Hindutva although a mild effort was made by groups inspired by BJP's "friend" from time to time.
Even the Feb 19 mega event did not evoke much public debate. No one even raised 'land' issues in and near Dimapur outskirts during election campaign.
What is in voters' mind will come out at the EVM. Some politicians having had enough of their life and career, but have no appetite to deliver, are still unwilling to give it up is another message from the battle of 2023. Please go out with valid card and cast your vote. One vote will be sum total of all your thoughts and pains.
