A festive atmosphere has been unleashed in Kokrajhar and other parts of Kokrajhar to celebrate the Bodo accord - inked between different factions, the Assam government, the centre and influential ABSU.

The State and Central Governments must work together to ensure that the accord signed with four factions of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) and the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) is implemented in letter and spirit, said the chairman of the NDFB (R ) , Ranjan Daimary. He also said that there should not be any division among the Bodos and non-Bodos living in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). -

PM Modi in Lok Sabha, Feb 6, 2020:

said:

".....In a letter to Assam's first Chief Minister Gopinath Bordoloi in 1950, Nehru had asked him to distinguish between Hindu refugees and Muslim migrants from Pakistan .....
"This was not only Mahatma Gandhi's but also Nehru's sentiments. Was Pandit Nehru communal? Did he discriminate between Hindus and Muslims? Did he want Hindu Rashtra?" PM Modi asked in reference to the raging debate on new Citizenship law.

He is giving a push to Fit India Movement

The Raj Bhawan and Mamata Govt headed for a major clash with West Bengal Governor Jadgeep Dhankhar stating that he will "create history" with his address to the Assembly at the beginning of the budget session.

Amit Shah addressed three roadshows on the last day of election campaign here:

There was repeating chanting of 'Jai Shri Ram' slogans

"Shaheen Bagh is the joint venture of the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress. Kejriwal and Rahul Gandhi are worried that Shaheen Bagh should not be discussed. I want to ask them why the security of the country should not be an electoral issue? Why are the people sitting in Shaheen Bagh demanding 'Jinnah Wali Azadi' and why the tukde-tukde gang is supporting them?

"Shame on these people. I want to tell all of you that tukde-tukde gang is going to get a shock, because you are going to press the button on the lotus symbol on February 8 for the development of Delhi and the country," he said at a road show in Seemapuri constituency in North East Delhi.

New Delhi, Feb 6 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday took a dig at Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi for showing disrespect to constitutional provisions and at the same trying to raise the issue time and again to attack his government.

"Congress should raise the slogan Sambhidhan bachao, Sambhidhan bachao (Save Constitution) on daily basis hundred times. This is because none other than the Congress tried to suppress constitutional provisions more," Mr Modi said in the Lok Sabha.

"These are the same people who did not remember the task of protecting Constitution during Emergency....," he said.

"It is the same party which brought in changes in Indian constitution most of the time. It is the who had dismissed the elected state governments number of times. It is the same party and people who had torn off the copy of the Ordinance passed by the union cabinet," he said in reference to the conduct of Rahul Gandhi when Manmohan Singh was the prime minister.

Mr Modi also said, "These people ought to take lessons on the importance of the sanctity of Indian Constitution" and in reference to Sonia Gandhi's alleged extra constitutional powers during UPA dispensation, the Prime Minister maintained. "There was a powerful body National Advisory Council which had more powers than PM and the then PMO. A government was run by remote control".

"Who stopped to implement Indian Constitution in Jammu and Kashmir ?," he asked while replying to the debate on the President's address.

He also took dig at Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and tried to remind him that he has been a 'son-in-law of Jammu and Kashmir' and thus should understand the importance of implementing Constitution in the northern province.

Taking potshots at Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Prime Minister said - the senior lawmaker is showing so much of enthusiasm as if he is now a brand ambassador of 'Fit India Campaign'.

Slamming Congress for its alleged Muslim appeasement politics, Mr Modi said, "For them this section has been only Muslims, but for us these people are Indians".

In this context, the Prime Minister said right from the likes of former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and freedom fighter Abdul Ghaffār Khan, for the BJP and the NDA government, everyone is Indian first.

Had we toed Cong track, Art 370 & Triple Talaq would not have been repealed: PM

New Delhi, Feb 6 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that his government was mandated to bring about drastic changes in Indian governance and mindset and hence the NDA regime has worked with a new determination and sensitivity.

Mr Modi also said had his government followed Congress' track, many good things would not have been achieved and Article 370 and Triple Talaq would not have been abolished.

"The people of India have not only changed the Sarkar. They want the Sarokar (functional style and mindset) to be changed as well. Had we worked according to the old ways and thought processes, Article 370 would never have been history. Muslim women would have kept suffering due to Triple Talaq," the Prime Minister said in Lok Sabha replying to the debate on Motion of Thanks to President's address to the joint sitting of Parliament.

In this context, he listed out some of the achievements of his government and said one significant part of the latest Bodo agreement is that all militant groups from the region have come forward to participate at the peace process and join the mainstream.

"We have brought a new dawn for the people of north east. New morning has come and there is fresh light," he said.

The Prime Minister said all the members of Parliament should dedicate themselves in the current session to work on economic issues.

He said the criticism of his government reflects that the opposition leaders also repose faith in his government."You all know, if anyone can deliver, it is my government," the Prime Minister said.

"Despite many efforts, the Bodo issue was unsolved for years. The Bodo Accord signed now is special because it has brought all stakeholders together and we are moving towards a more peaceful era," he said.

He said it is due to the works of his government that the Northeast is becoming a growth engine.

"Great work has been done in so many sectors. Ministers and officials are regularly visiting the region," he said.

The Prime Minister also said it is due to the speed of this government that in the last five years.

"Thirty seven crore people got bank accounts, 11 crore people got toilets in their homes, 13 crore people got gas connections and two crore people got their own homes," he said.

"India can no longer wait for problems to remain unsolved. And, rightfully so. That is why, our aim is - Speed and scale and also determination and decisiveness,'' the Prime Minister asserted.

The BJP-led regime is working with sensitivity and trying to bring in solutions, he said.

Taking potshots at Opposition, he said, "....Gandhiji is Life for us". He said the government will give focus on job creation; but "we will ensure that your joblessness (days out of power) does not end".

Describing Jammu and Kashmir as the crown jewel of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the identity of Kashmir was buried when the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits began in 1990.

He also said no one can side with the statements of three detained chief ministers of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir who had said that abrogation of provisions of Article 370 will separate Kashmir from India.

"Who made Kashmir only about land grabbing? Who made Kashmir's identity only about bombs and guns? Can anyone forget that dark night of January? In reality, Kashmiri identity is closely linked with harmony," he said replying to a debate on Motion of Thanks to the President's Address in Lok Sabha.

Modi said Kashmir's identity was buried on January 19, 1990 when Kashmiri Pandits started leaving the valley due to militancy.

The prime minister said statements made by former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti, Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah on the abrogation of provisions of Article 370 are not acceptable.

"Many said that Kashmir will be on fire if Article 370 is removed. Many are questioning us for detaining some political leaders. On August 5, Mehbooba Mufti said that India had betrayed Kashmir and we would have been better with deciding otherwise in 1947. Can we accept such people?

"Omar Abdullah said that removing Article 370 will separate Kashmir from India. Farooq Abdullah said that if Article 370 is removed then no one will unfurl the national flag in Kashmir. How can we side with them," he asked.

Modi said such statements made by the former chief ministers were unacceptable.

"These are leaders who don't trust Kashmiri people that is why they used such language. But we trusted Kashmiris and abrogated Article 370," he said.

The prime minister said Kashmir is the crown jewel of India and his government has faith in the people of the valley where development measures are being taken.

"The abrogation of Article 370 has led to the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country," he said.

He said the real identity of Jammu and Kashmir is its egalitarian attitude towards all faiths and its Sufi tradition, and added that the region cannot be left behind.

The prime minister said the restrictions imposed in the Union Territory are being removed and union ministers are going to various of parts of the region, getting direct feedback from the people. The government would definitely act upon the feedback, he said.

Modi said his government is committed to work for the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and for its all round development.

He said Ladakh would be developed as a carbon neutral Union Territory.

Prime Minister defended National Population Register (NPR), saying it was being updated to allow the rightful beneficiaries get the benefit of government welfare schemes.

In Rajya Sabha, he said the NPR was first done in 2010 and later updated in 2015.

He said census and NPR are "usual administrative" processes which have been carried out previously as well but have now suddenly become contentious.

Questions asked in the NPR are purely governance related, he said citing the example of asking citizens of the language spoken by them and their parents are deeply linked to the schools that need to be set up in that particular area.

"Dont try to mislead people," he said, asking opposition parties to not politicise the issue for narrow political gains.

"They are opposing (NPR) for narrow and frivolous political narrative. This is anti-poor," he said, adding his government had made productive use of the data collected by previous NPR to give benefits of the schemes to the poor.

"We have record of your NPR, no citizen was persecuted based on that record of NPR," he said, citing the statement of the home minister of the Congress-led UPA government appealing to citizens to enrol in the exercise.

Quoting freedom fighter Bhupendra Kumar Datta, PM Modi --- said the Late leader had said

"So far as this side of Pakistan is concerned, the minorities are practicallyliquidated. He also says, --- Those of us who are here to live represent near a crore of people still left in East Bengal, live under a total sense of frustration".

(Datta had stayed back in East Pakistan after 1947)

Immobilised by the Martial Law in 1958, Bhupen waited in vain for four years to renew his activity in Pakistan. In 1962, he bade good bye to Pakistan and to politics, and went back to India, sharing his time between Kolkata and New Delhi. During his absence, on 9 September 1947, an imposing Bagha Jatin memorial week was observed in West Bengal, and the former Jugantar members had chosen Bhupen for writing an authentic biography of their leader. Encouraged by the enthusiasm of a young researcher, Bhupen passed on to him the lifelong notes and reflections he had accumulated, accompanied him to interview most of the important associates of Bagha Jatin and opened before him the access to the archives in India.

Bhupendra Kumar Dutta was born 8 October 1892 and died 29 December 1979) was an Indian freedom fighter and a revolutionary who fought for Indian independence from British rule. In addition to his other specific contributions as a Jugantar leader, he holds the record of a hunger strike for 78 days in Bilaspur Jail in December 1917.

Bhupendra Kumar Datta

PM Modi also referred to another freedom fighter Jogendra Nath Mandal

Mr Modi quoted him of stating in Oct 9, 1950 ----

“I must say that this policy of driving out Hindus from Pakistan has succeeded completely in West Pakistan and is nearing completion in East Pakistan.”

- “Pakistan has not given the Muslim League, entire satisfaction and a full sense of security. They now want to get rid of the Hindu intelligentsia so that the political, economic and social life of Pakistan may not in any way be influenced by them.”

Jogendra Nath Mandal (Bengali: যোগেন্দ্রনাথ মণ্ডল; 29 January 1904 – 5 October 1968), was one of the central and leading Founding Fathers[1] of modern state of Pakistan, and legislator serving as country's first minister of law and labour, and also was second minister of commonwealth and Kashmir affairs. An Indian and later Pakistani statesman who served as the first minister of law and labour in Pakistan. As leader of the Scheduled Castes (Dalits), Jogendranath had made common cause with the Muslim League in their demand.

Blasting out at Pt Nehru, PM Modi also said in Lok Sabha: "..just because some one wanted to be PM, country was partitioned"
