BJP links debate on Motion of Thanks to Prez address to electoral politics

New Delhi, Feb 3 The BJP on Monday sought to link the debate on Motion of Thanks to President's address to electoral politics and thus fielded West Delhi MP Parvesh Saheb Singh Verma and lawmaker from Pataliputra Ram Kripal Yadav to speak on the same.

While Mr Verma moved the Motion of Thanks, the same was seconded by former Union Minister Mr Yadav, who hails from Bihar. Delhi will go to the polls on February 8 and the state Assembly election in Bihar is slated to take place by October-November this year.

The decision to field Mr Verma is significant as the West Delhi representative has hit headlines during last few days and was banned by the Election Commission for as many as 96 hours from campaigning.

As expected, Opposition Congress and members of other parties, including DMK and AIMIM staged a walk-out in the Lok Sabha to register their protest for fielding Mr Verma to initiate the debate.

Speaker Om Birla, however, ruled that the Opposition members should not set a 'bad precedent' and make an issue of something said outside the House.

In his speech during the debate, Mr Verma referred to alleged non-performance of the Kejriwal-led regime in Delhi and slammed the opposition parties for supporting the sit in agitation at Shaheen Bagh.

He also said no matter what happens in protest scenes, the Modi government will not revoke or take any step backward on the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Mr Verma also kept in mind his party's priorities in West Bengal - which also goes to the polls in 2021.

Seeking to play a teaser on senior Trinamool Congress lawmaker Saugata Roy, the BJP MP said all  opposition parties should unitedly raise 'Jai Shri Ram slogan'.

"Jai Shir Ram boliye.....aap ke paap dhool jaeyenge (Please take the name of Lord Ram, Ram does not symbolise any particular religion. All your sins will be washed off)," said Mr Verma.

Seconding the motion, Ram Kripal Yadav said those who raised 'anti-national slogans' will get a befitting reply as the country is determined to stay united behind BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"I have seen from closer range, I have lived long with the same opposition parties. These parties are now misleading minorities," Mr Yadav said.

'I know Oppn pretty well, I was one of them,' says BJP lawmaker Ram Kripal Yadav

New Delhi, Feb 3 BJP lawmaker representing Pataliputra in Bihar, Ram Kripal Yadav, on Monday took potshots at the opposition parties including those from socialist blocs and said he knew them 'too well' and the country should be also cautious about their 'selfish politics'.
"Mein inn sabko rag rag pahchanta hoon (I know these parties pretty well)," Mr Yadav said in the Lok Sabha while seconding the Motion of Thanks to the President's address.

The Motion was earlier moved by BJP's lawmaker from West Delhi - Parvesh Saheb Singh Verma.
Mr Yadav, who till 2014 also belonged to socialist-based politics and moved to BJP from RJD, said, "These opposition parties are never for the people. They are only for power".
His caustic remarks were on the Shaheen Bagh protest and the alleged role played by opposition parties in such stir especially against the newly enacted Citizenship law.
The former MoS for Rural Development (under Modi Govt-1.0) said in contrast he has seen the saffron outfit and is impressed by the manner it functions and treats its workers.
"I was humbled when the son of a poor milkman was made a Minister. I am grateful to the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi)," Mr Yadav said.
He said those who raised 'anti-national slogans' during the anti-CAA protest will get a befitting reply as the country is determined to stay united behind BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"I have seen from closer range, I have lived long with the same opposition parties. These parties are now misleading minorities," Mr Yadav said.

The Pataliputra representative Mr Yadav was for long known as a close associate of former Bihar CM and RJD stalwart Lalu Prasad Yadav.
When Mr Yadav moved over to the BJP in 2014 - he was generally seen as a neo-Yadav face of the saffron party in Bihar.

In both the Lok Sabha polls - 2014 and 2019 - Ram Kripal Yadav had humbled Misa Bharti - daughter of Lalu Prasad.

Oppn stages walkout in LS as BJP fields Parvesh Verma to debate on Prez address

New Delhi, Feb 3 Opposition Congress and members of other parties, including DMK, AIMIM and RSP, staged a walk-out in the Lok Sabha on Monday as the BJP fielded its controversial member Parvesh Saheb Singh Verma to initiate debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address.

As soon as the Speaker Om Birla asked Mr Verma to initiate the debate, Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and other opposition members were up on their feet objecting to his participation in the debate.

While nothing could be heard in the din, Mr Chowdhury and his party colleague Gaurav Gogoi and other Opposition members, including the likes of Asaduddin Owaisi (AIMIM) and T R Baalu and A Raja (both DMK) and others, raised objection to Mr Verma's participation as the West Delhi lawmaker was recently in news for his alleged vitriolic remarks in the run-up to the Delhi Assembly elections.

Speaker Mr Birla ruled that the Opposition members should not set a 'bad precedent' and make an issue of something said outside the House.
"Galat parampara shuru mat kijiye....," the Speaker said while several opposition members raised anti-government slogans.

However, as the Congress floor leader was disallowed to make his point, the Opposition members staged a walk-out.

Initiating the debate, Mr Verma said the same Opposition parties and their leaders have used abusive languages against Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling him 'Hitler and Maut Ka Saudagar' and it is they who are today questioning the treasury bench about decorum in public conduct.

BJP lawmaker Mr Verma, who was banned campaigning by the Election Commission for his controversial remarks for 96 hours, said there is a "big difference" between the mindset of the opposition parties and that of the BJP.

"It is this reason that the strength of opposition parties have declined sharply in the House," he remarked.

He said Prime Minister Modi has given the most 'decisive government' and insisted that the NDA regime's stance on Triple Talaq and Article 370 have been taken well by the people.

In J&K context, he said while the opposition parties had resorted to fear mongering after Article 370 was abrogated, the truth of the fact is not a single civilian has been killed in the northern province since August last.

On some leaders still being held in J&K, he said, things are normal in the newly created Union Territory and those who are 'held' are having nice time and relishing their plates of Biryani.

The West Delhi MP said the emergence of Modi government has changed the face of polity and governance in India as 'only one family' ruled at every level. "They were, therefore, hardly bothered about resolving country's problems," he said.

"But 130 crore people have said this country is no one's Jagir," he said, adding that the Modi government has been able to resolve most of the complex problems since Independence.

"If there are anymore problem, please tell us, we will resolve these too," the BJP lawmaker said.

However, in a sarcastic note he said, "ek samasya ka samadhan hamare paas nahi hai ....woh samasya badi ho gayi hai. Woh samasya aankh maarti hai (But we do not have any solution to any problem)" -- in oblique reference to minority appeasement policies pursued by the Opposition parties.

Mr Verma lashed out at the opposition parties for what he said trying to teach the ruling dispensation about the true spirit of the Constitution.

"They are teaching us about the Constitution....But when they were in power, the Opposition leader (read Rahul Gandhi himself) had torn off the Ordinance in the open street. Where was the Constitution then?," he said. He also referred to the 1984 anti-Sikh carnage and said the BJP-led government had set up a SIT and has tried to deliver justice to the victims.

In his speech marred by uproarious scenes more than once, Mr Verma slammed the Kejriwal government of providing poor governance in last five years.

He also accused the city government of not giving permission for prosecution of those who raised 'anti-national slogans'.

West Delhi MP Parvesh targets AAP for non performance, Cong for corruption

New Delhi, Feb 3 The BJP on Monday sought to make optimum use of the mandatory debate on the Motion of Thanks to President's address to the joint sitting of Parliament and fielded its West Delhi lawmaker Parvesh Saheb Singh Verma to initiate the discussions.

Mr Verma has been in news for his controversial remarks in the run up to the February 8 Delhi assembly polls and was also banned by the poll panel for 96 hours.

In his speech in the Lok Sabha, Mr Verma blasted out at both the AAP and the Congress for their respective failures including misgovernance and corruption.
He said while the AAP regime has failed to provide a good governance in last five years in Delhi and with regard the Congress, he said "two things cannot be counted.....stars in the open sky and the number of corruption cases under Congress".

Seconding the motion, another BJP lawmaker Ram Kripal Yadav said it is unfortunate that most parties who had politics based on anti-Congressism ideologies are today standing with the same party which ruled India for long.

Mr Verma said when the government of Delhi has forgotten about its people, the Centre will work for them.
Lashing out at the AAP government, he said Rs 1,400 crore was spent on advertisements for the assembly polls.

''Not a single school, college or hospital was constructed by the AAP government in past five years,'' he said.
Central welfare schemes, including Ayushman Bharat,  were not implemented in Delhi and people were deprived of such benefits, he said.

Bringing up Shaheen Bagh issue, Mr Verma said the AAP was supporting protestors in Shaheen Bagh who  were raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

He said Congress and AAP were supporting 'Tukde tukde gang' which talked about 'jehad' and 'Jinnah wali Azadi' .

When Trinamool lawmaker Saugata Roy said the BJP MP has dedicated most part of his speech to the affairs of  Delhi, Speaker Om Birla made a brief remark in lighter vein , ''You speak on Bengal''.

The BJP leader said the Centre has given Rs 390 Crore under Nirbhaya Fund to Delhi, but only five per cent was used and rest remained unspent.

He took potshots at the Delhi Chief Minister and others for asking proof for surgical strike, which took place in February 2019, and said ''Next time they will be taken in aeroplane and seated at the spot, so that they can witness it''.

Delhi pollution has increased, he said, adding that ''Earlier only one person was coughing but now all of Delhi is coughing'' - without taking names.
Talking about regularisation of unauthorised colonies of Delhi, he said the AAP dispensation did not spend a single paise on it.
bLOGGER !!
He said Yamuna river will become as clean as Sabarmati in Gujarat if BJP comes to power and also promised 'Har ghar ke nal mein jal' (water in every tap in every household).
Mr Verma said the present dispensation under AAP in Delhi was paying salary in mosques but it was being discriminatory and not paying those working in temples or Gurdwaras.

He said this (Centre) was a performing government and does not believes in procrastinating.
''Problems which has been pending for decades, have been  solved. This is a government which takes decisions,'' he said.
