Describing what happened at the meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Union MoS Jitendra Singh said that the government had deputed him and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan to talk to the Congress leader and other protesters because the demonstration was being held at a spot which is "vulnerable" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'security'.
"Within a few moments, after taking permission from the government's top leadership, Rahul Gandhi was assured that his demand has been accepted, and the government is ready to discuss in Parliament all issues related to NEET and the associated movement," said Singh.
The minister said the Centre was prepared to discuss every issue relating to the examination and the movement connected with it inside Parliament.
'Demands Have Changed'
MoS Jitendra Singh alleged that after being informed that the government had accepted the proposal for a parliamentary discussion, Rahul introduced another condition.
According to Singh, LoP, Lok Sabha then insisted that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should resign.
"When this information was conveyed to Shri Rahul Gandhi, he said that he would not agree to this alone but also sought assurance for the resignation of the Union Education Minister," Singh said.
He added that Gandhi then told him he now had two demands - a discussion in Parliament and the resignation of the education minister.
That means 'goalpost has been changed'. To this Rahul said - " "Mein toh wohi karunga jo meri marzi hae".
Singh said he reminded Gandhi that only moments earlier he had demanded a parliamentary debate in talks with him (Singh) and also the Home Secretary.
According to the minister, Rahul Gandhi responded by saying that his demands had now changed. "When he was reminded that earlier he had only demanded discussion, he said that now my demands have changed".
'It is my prerogative'
The minister further alleged that when he attempted to persuade Rahul Gandhi not to alter his position so quickly, the Congress leader dismissed the objection. "When an attempt was made to humbly explain to him that for a senior leader like him to backtrack from his word so quickly does not befit him, he said that it is his prerogative," Singh said.

The Govt sources have 'shared' their side of the story and maintained that the Congress party has started a bad precedent by staging a protest near the gate of PM's official residence.
There is another facet to the entire drama.
Sanjay Singh of AAP has stated that the Modi Govt has "pitched" Rahul against CJP-AAP inspired protest.
It is largely felt that the Congress was uncomfortable with the CJP protest because it appeared the newly floated organisation had stolen the limelight.
This has left Congress unnerved. In 2011-12; the Congress had suffered the most because the India Against Corruption led by Anna Hazare had stolen media mileage.
Observers say the government is also possibly smartly. While an MoS was deputed to meet Rahul Gandhi; the Union Health Minister (cabinet) J P Nadda and leader of the Rajya Sabha was deputed to meet the CJP delegation.

The Aam Aadmi Party, which has been openly backing the ongoing CJP protest, on Tuesday took a dig at the Congress' dharna outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence, calling it a "jugalbandi" with the BJP government, and accused Rahul Gandhi of "weakening" the agitation.
Senior AAP leader and former Delhi chief minister Atishi questioned how Rahul was "allowed" to stage a dharna outside the PM's residence, while the Modi government had refused to talk to Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) supporters despite their month-long protest.
"This is amazing! CJP and Sonam Wangchuk: One month protest at Jantar Mantar. Modi govt refuses to talk to them," she said.
"Rahul Gandhi: Allowed to protest outside PM residence. In one hour, Modi Govt starts dialogue. Wah! Kya jugalbandi hai!," the AAP leader said on X in Hindi.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh accused Rahul of "undermining" the agitation.
"Apparently, to undermine CJP's protest, Modi got Rahul Gandhi to stage a protest at his own residence."
Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj also attacked the Congress, alleging that its leaders were silent on the ongoing movement, while their social media handles and influencers aligned to them have been trying to "weaken" the CJP protest.
