'Indore Honeymoon murder ... A complex case cracked or some fabrication ?
However, questions still remain.
Sonam’s father has rejected the contract killing charges against his daughter, alleging that the Meghalaya Police is fabricating the case.
After 16 days of search and several unanswered questions, the case of the missing Indore couple in Shillong has come to a dramatic end, with the wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, surrendering to the Uttar Pradesh Police in Ghazipur in the early hours of Monday.
The Meghalaya Police announced that the wife, who had 'gone missing' since May 23 in Shillong, surrendered herself, a week after her husband's body was found deep inside a gorge in the Cherrapunji area.
Wife Sonam's alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, was an employee at her father's plywood factory.
'They would constantly talk on phone,' one Vipul said, adding, 'I have never seen Raj Kushwaha till now, I have just heard his name.'
Raj Kushwaha presumably five years younger has also been arrested by the Indore Police.
There were all sorts of speculation. That the young wife could have been trafficked to neighbouring Bangladesh.
Meghalaya has been saved of a bad name that tourists are not safe in this northeastern state.
Sonam, ordered a hit on husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon trip as she was allegedly having an affair with an individual identified as Raj Kushwaha, a senior police official from Meghalaya told India Today TV.
Sonam Raghuvanshi, a 24-year-old woman, was found at a dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road and was taken into custody, according to the police. The primary investigation revealed it to be an alleged case of contract killing, as the woman was having an affair with a man who is also among those arrested.
Accused Aakash Rajpoot, Vikas alias Vicky, Anand and Raj Kushwaha, the alleged lover of Sonam.

Sonam’s father has rejected the contract killing charges against his daughter, alleging that the Meghalaya Police is fabricating the case.
He has demanded a CBI probe.
He also claimed that his daughter told him she was abducted from Meghalaya and that there was an attempt to rob her. According to him, she said she doesn’t remember how she ended up in Uttar Pradesh.
The dhaba owner, from where the UP Police found Sonam, said she appeared mentally disturbed and revealed that her brother had asked him to alert the police.
He claimed Sonam stayed at the eatery for about two hours and told him her husband had been killed in a robbery in Meghalaya.
"She asked for my phone to call her family, and I gave it to her. She started crying while speaking to them. I took the phone from her and informed her family about her location. She didn’t seem mentally stable. A little later, her brother called back and requested me to inform the local police," said Sahil Yadav.
The victim's brother alleged that Raj Kushwaha was employed by Sonam and the two were in frequent contact over the phone. He suggested that Sonam could be involved in the crime, saying, "We don’t know which of the two planned the trip to Meghalaya. They hadn’t even booked return tickets"
The conspiracy to murder Raja Raghuvanshi spans three states. Uttar Pradesh, where the woman was detained, Madhya Pradesh's Indore, where the hitmen were arrested, and Meghalaya, where the murder took place.
While the conspiracy was hatched in Indore, the murder took place in Meghalaya, according to sources.
Raghuvanshi and his wife went missing while vacationing in Sohra area in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district on May 23. His body was found in a gorge on June 2, while an extensive search for his wife was underway.
The Meghalaya Police had formed a Special Investigation Team, and according to top official Vivek Syiem, the motive was Sonam's affair with Kushwaha.
The accused had been underground until Sunday and surfaced only after the operation was intensified.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma congratulated the state police for cracking the case that made headlines across the nation. "Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved by the #meghalayapolice in the Raja murder case... 3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, female has surrendered and operation still on to catch 1 more assailant... well done," he posted on X.
Meghalaya Minister Alexander Laloo Hek, meanwhile, flagged the alleged attempts to “malign” the image of the state and its people. "The truth has come out... All these days, the family and friends of Raja Raghuvanshi blamed Meghalaya Police and the Government of Meghalaya, which is extremely shameful. Our police have done an excellent job.
We should file a defamation case against everyone who is maligning the image of Meghalaya and its people...".
Hek is the BJP MLA from Pynthorumkhrah assembly Constituency.
Suddenly common man is discussing Meghalaya, a state which otherwise remains in background when anything in India or in the Northeast is discussed. The tragic nature or the story of Indore couple caught my eyes on the day this news was reported. I was quite shocked specially since only two days ago there were reports of heavy rain the flooding in Northeast. I was keeping an eye on any news from that region because my brother in law, his two teenaged sons and wife were to leave on june 4 for a tour of Meghalaya planned long ago. His interest was Cherrapunji and that is where this incident happened. I can not say sitting way away from Meghalaya whether it is fabrication or not but I would thorough questioning is needed of Sonam who supposedly surrendered in Gazipur. If she was to surrender one day or other why did she vanish from Meghalaya and appeared only after her husband's body was found? - A.K Patil - Pune
ReplyDeleteNicely summed up by Mr A K Patil. He is candid. How common man is discussing Meghalaya -- it speaks about media, socialmedia and also so-called intellectuals. There are many positive things about the state and the region ... none bothers. You need a murder to discuss a state. I think we are unprepared as a global power. - Tushar Bhadra, Varanasi
