ASSAM RIFLES CONDUCTS WEAPON DISPLAY AT SILCHAR
#AssamRifles conducted a Weapon Display on 15 June 2025 at Silchar for 550 #NCC cadets, offering them an interactive experience with modern infantry weapons.
The event aimed to inspire youth towards a career in the armed forces and deepen their respect for soldiers.
*From Dreams to Duty: A Young Cadet Begins His Journey Towards a Brighter Tomorrow*
My name is Laldinmawia and I am a 15-year-old NCC cadet from Mizoram. I wanted to share my experience of a wonderful event that I attended yesterday. Life in my village has never been easy. Many families struggle with poverty, and sadly, drugs have taken away many of our brothers and sisters. But something happened yesterday that changed the way I look at my life and my future—a special day in Silchar where I attended weapons display by the Assam Rifles.
I have always been fascinated by the uniform and hence, joined NCC a few years ago. We had heard stories about the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces. But seeing them in person, standing tall in their uniforms with such discipline and strength, made my heart beat faster with pride.
They didn’t just show us weapons; they showed us what it means to protect a nation. From rifles to communication gear and even how to work as a team during emergencies—they explained everything to us with so much panache.
What amazed me most wasn’t just the powerful weapons or the smart technology. It was the way the soldiers treated us—with respect, encouragement, and a smile that said, “You can be one of us too.”
For me, they were more than soldiers. They were our mentors, guiding us towards an enlightened and prosperous future.
One of the soldiers told us, “You don’t have to be rich to be respectful. Your acts attract respect.” That sentence is now stuck in my heart. I want to wear that uniform one day.
I want to protect my nation and be a mentor for the younger generation saving them from the very things that destroyed so many families in Mizoram—drugs, crime, and hopelessness. My parents bear so many hardships, and I want to give them a life of rest. Not through shortcuts, not through wrong paths, but by choosing a respectable and honoured path.
Before joining NCC, I used to wonder what my life would be. Many boys in my locality get trapped into drugs because they think there is no other way. But now I know there is a way—a better, stronger way. The soldiers taught me that our circumstances don’t define our future—our choices do.
Now I will study even harder. I will go for early morning runs, just like they do. I want to be part of the Indian Armed Forces, and I want every child in Mizoram to believe that—we are the future.
To all the children who feel lost, and to all the parents who feel helpless—please believe in your dreams and your children. If I, a 12-year-old boy from a small village, can find a dream through discipline and courage, then so can anyone.
It is very easy to choose a wrong path which majority of us have been choosing. But it takes courage to take the right and less travelled road. And we will rise—not with wrong deeds, but with pride in our hearts.
Jai Hind.
