Moditva style of potshot at Arvind Kejriwal's party - 'AAP-da (Disaster)' for Delhi in last 10 years !! But Delhiites need to come to terms with their 'free power' mega-weakness/greed

In the run up to the fast approaching polls to elect the 'city Govt' in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (Jan 5) accused the AAP dispensation of not having a development vision for the national capital.

Modi asserted that there had been an 'AAP-da' (disaster) in the city in the last 10 years.

Addressing a BJP 'parivartan rally' at Japanese Park in Rohini in North Delhi, PM Modi said, "I am confident that lotus (BJP's electoral symbol) is going to bloom in Delhi as well.

Only the BJP can give Delhi the status of the best capital city in the world."

Accusing the Delhi government under Arvind Kejriwal's party of derailing development in the past 10 years. he said : "This is the best time to win the hearts of the people of Delhi and remove this 'AAP-da' (*disaster)".

On Sunday's rally, Modi further said - "I want to appeal to the people of Delhi to give an opportunity to the BJP for the bright future of Delhi.

In the last 10 years, the government that Delhi has seen is no less than 'AAP-da'. Now, we can only hear 'AAP-da nahi sahenge, badal ke rahenge' (we won't tolerate this disaster, we want change for good) in Delhi," he said.

In 2015 and 2020, the Lotus party could not defeat AAP. Hence the coming February polls have a special significance of their own and -- a real Do or Die battle.

The BJP last held power in Delhi city government in November 1998 when the escalating onion price hit the saffron party and Sheika Dikshit led Congress had come to power.

Despite poor show against AAP in the Delhi polls in 2015 as well as 2020, in 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls - the saffron had won all seven parliamentary seats.

This probably make it clear that the voters make their own decision 'wisely'. The AAP's promise of free-electricity have done great damage to the Lotus party's prospects in the city in 2020 as well as 2015 polls.

The Congress ruled the state for 15 years under Late Sheila Dikshit between Nov 1998 and Nov-Dec 2013. The advent of AAP cost Congress dearly.

The AAP, which is in power in the national capital since 2015, is eyeing a third consecutive term.

The BJP is desperate to make a comeback in the national capital after 27 years.

PM Modi further said: "I feel sad that the 'AAP-da' people have wasted 10 years of the people of Delhi. This 'AAP-da' government does not have a vision for the development of the people of Delhi.

"Even today, all the development works in Delhi is done by the central government. Delhi Metro has reached every corner of Delhi. This work has been done by the BJP. Work on the Namo Bharat train service, highways, flyovers have been done by the central government," he said.

Raking up the 'sheeshmahal' row over the alleged lavish renovation of the Delhi Chief Minister's bungalow during Kejriwal's tenure, Modi said while the people of Delhi were battling with the Covid-19 pandemic,

"the 'AAP-da' government had built a 'sheeshmahal' during that critical juncture".

The BJP has alleged that Kejriwal spent approximately Rs 45 crore on the renovation of his official residence while he was the Chief Minister, including Rs 1 crore on curtains and Rs 6 crore on flooring.

"On the other hand, the central government gives money to the poor to build houses under the Pradhanmantri Awas Yojana," the Prime Minister said.

Taking a dig at Kejriwal's 'kattar imaandaar' (staunch honest) remark, Modi alleged that AAP leaders were involved in "innumerable" misdeeds and had no intention of serving the people.

"These 'AAP-da' people have panicked after seeing their defeat in the upcoming Delhi elections. They are spreading lies. This happens when there is a flaw in the intentions and there is no loyalty towards the people," he said.

Delhi Assembly polls are likely to be held next month. The national capital has 70 Assembly seats.

The Congress has failed to win single seat in Delhi in 2015 and 2020 polls while in 2015, the BJP had only three and the seats for the saffron party jumped to only 8 while AAP's figures came down from 67 to 62.

Kejriwal with Anna Hazare : This re-shaped Delhi politics

It may not be erroneous to state that the mandate in 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls and 2015 and 2020 assembly polls and yet again 2024 Lok Sabha polls easily prove that people in Delhi are/were more concerned about free electricity and free water and saw all that coming under Arvind Kejriwal.

But when it came to national issues, development and national security vis-a-vis Pakistan and terror elements; they seem to believe that PM Narendra Modi will protect both their Hindu and nationalist interests.
