A date with India's valiant history for 'India Gate'.

New Delhi

'India Gate' in the heart of the national capital will soon have a grand statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

It will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. For the time being, of course

there will be a hologram statue.

"At a time when the entire nation is marking the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose,

I am glad to share that his grand statue, made of granite, will be installed at India Gate. This would be a

symbol of India’s indebtedness to him," the Prime Minister wrote in a series of tweets.

"Till the grand statue of Netaji Bose is completed, a hologram statue of his would be present at the

same place. I will unveil the hologram statue on 23rd January, Netaji’s birth anniversary," he wrote.

Paying rich tribute to Netaji Subhas Bose, Home Minister Amit Shah also tweeted to say:

"Netaji is an epitome of India’s true strength and resolve. Congress has left no stone unturned

to forget the immortal contributions of India’s brave son".

Mr Shah also said the Prime Minister's decision to install Netaji’s statue at India Gate on

his 125th Jayanti will inspire generations to come.

Born on January 23, 1897, the staunch nationalist Bose made a name for himself by his defiant patriotism

that made him a hero, a living legend.

The Union Ministry of Culture and Tourism last year announced a year-long celebration to commemorate the

125th birth anniversary year of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi presides over the inaugural event of the celebrations in Kolkata on Jan 23, 2021.

The Government of India also decided to celebrate  23rd January as PARAKRAM DIWAS

every year.

The 125th Birth Anniversary year of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was celebrated in a befitting manner at national and international level.

Several commemoration activities were organised in Delhi, Kolkata and other places associated with

Netaji and Azad Hind Fauj, both in India as well as overseas.

The dimensions of Netaji's statue would be 28 feet in height and 6 feet in breadth.

Amar Jawan Jyoti venue has its own history. It is spread over 40 acres in the India Gate complex behind the canopy and is dedicated to soldiers killed during wars for India's safety.

The Canopy earlier had a statue of Kind George 5th, which was removed in 1968.

Canopy's original top, with gilded Tudor Crown bearing Royal Cyphers of King George V were removed on August 12, 1958.

In 1968, the statue of King George V was removed, kept in store briefly and then moved to Delhi's Coronation Park.
