"Mein Rashtra ki aradhana mein nikli hoon" - Aparna Yadav on Joining BJP

New Delhi

Giving a symbolic and crucial boost to the BJP's electoral journey in Uttar Pradesh, former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's daughter-in-law Aparna Yadav on Wednesday joined the saffron party.

"I was always impressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's functioning. Mein Rashtra ki aradhana mein nikli hoon (I have now come out in the service of nation)", Ms Yadav said embarking about her new political journey.

She joined BJP in presence of deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya among others.

"Rashtra ka dharm mere liye sabse zyada jaruri hae (The service of my country always gets top priority in my mind)," Ms Yadav said.

Aparna Yadav is wife of Mulayam's second son Prateek.

She particularly said the Prime Minister's commitment and stewardship for Swachch Bharat Mission and empowerment of women were unique.

Speaking on the occasion, Maurya said, "From the media statements Aparna Yadav used to make time to time, I always thought her inclusion in the party would strengthen BJP's mission of working for women and the country".

"After days of consultation she finally decided to join our party today," Maurya said adding, this is also an

occasion to ponder that when Akhilesh Yadav had failed both as the Chief Minister and as a 'family man',

it would be logical to give him a convincing defeat in this year's elections as well.

He also said while BJP has made it categorical and announced names of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

and himself (Maurya) in the first list, Samawadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is still not showing the courage to

contest election from any particular seat yet.

Ms Aparna Yadav had contested the 2017 state election on SP ticket from Lucknow Cantt.

It was quite an exciting contest in the constituency five years back.

Rita Bahuguna Joshi had won the seat five years back defeating Samajwadi Party candidate Aparna Yadav by a margin of 33,796 votes.

Ms Joshi, however, is now a lawmaker in Lok Sabha representing Allahabad.

In 2019 by-polls, Suresh Chandra Tiwari had retained the seat for the saffron party.

UP goes to the seven phases beginning February 10 up to March 7.
