"Self-righteousness, pride, arrogance ... blinded and shortened our vision" : A tone of lament from one NNPG faction sums up the sad irony of Naga movement

There is a tone of lament from one NNPG faction. That's a call for soul searching.

That sums up the sad irony of Naga movement in circa 2025.

This is the story -- 10 years after Framework Agreement of 2015 and eight years after the Agreed Position of 2017.

"Self-righteousness, pride, arrogance and greed has blinded and shortened our vision spiritually, politically and ideologically as people and community," says a statement signed by veteran Neakpao Konyak, P Tikhak Naga, Alezo Venuh, Wangtin Naga, Puthai Lam, Isak Sumi, Shehoto L Yesca, Kiviho Zhimo, Kihoto Chophi and K Kamson.

The statement was issued on the occasion of 'Naga Independence Day' (Aug 14).

The statement also says -- "We cannot afford to progress as people in isolation or to limit ourselves to narrow confinements of our sole perceived rights in today's interdependent globalised world".

It says: "We must remain steadfast and true to our solemn oath - 'Nagaland for Christ' in all our endeavour.

N Kitovi (Convener, NNPG) and Ato Kilonser of  NSCN (NK-N Kitovi faction)

says :

"Today, I am aware that there are too many Naga political groups evoking alike a sense of bitterness, shame and hopelessness from our people.

Sadly, under various factors and circumstances different political groups have come up.

Only time will tell whether they succumbed to the policies of various agencies, anti-solution elements in Nagaland state, for fame and wealth or to really find a solution to our Naga problem.

"Yet, despite the personal differences, all the political groups, save for few, are either in Ceasefire or in similar status quo with the Gol, co-ordinating to secure an acceptable and honourable political solution on the basis of Agreed Position, signed on 17th November 2017.

Securing political solution for future Naga generations is our goal and on this crucial historic matter, personal differences amongst us do not matter. This has been conveyed clearly to the Gol officially.

All negotiating entities have successfully completed political negotiations with the Gol as on 31st October 2019, and therefore philosophical theories at this hour is not really appropriate for the Naga people and the impending political solution."

P Tikhak Naga in his message on behalf of his faction

noted:

"Today, the two primary signatory groups—NNPGs and NSCN (IM)—fail to coexist harmoniously, prioritizing self-interest over the collective good of the Naga people.

This division has hindered our progress. I urge all Nagas—big and small, politicians, officers, business leaders, churches, and civil society organizations—to come together and reflect on why we are so deeply divided.

We must identify what has gone wrong and why unity remains elusive.

The Naga political groups must recognize their shortcomings and work toward reconciliation. Loving and appreciating each other’s positions and circumstances is essential for healing our divisions. Making peace with adversaries while harboring hatred for our brothers has led us astray from our shared political history."
