Opposition may seek impeachment of poll body chief over 'vote chori': Sources
Meanwhile, CEC Gyanesh Kumar on Sunday strongly countered allegations of electoral fraud levelled by the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi, defending the integrity of India's voting process.
The drama will not work. As the word goes - its sheer Drama !!
Impeachment needs 2/3 majority, Opposition lacks numbers
Poll panel chief also urged Leader of the Opposition to submit affidavit or apologise !!
Reportedly, the Opposition is considering moving an impeachment notice against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged 'vote chori'.
"We will be taking a decision very soon," Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi said.
These are only diversionary tactics.
At his August 7 press conference, Rahul Gandhi had alleged irregularities such as duplicate entries, voters listed with house number zero, and dozens of voters registered to the same address.
CEC Kumar dismissed these claims as misrepresentations, citing examples from the Mahadevapura assembly segment in Karnataka's Bangalore Central constituency, where the Congress had in fact won the 2023 state polls. He also clarified that no complaints would be accepted on the draft list of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar after September 1.
“When politics is being done by targeting the voters of India by keeping a gun on the shoulder of the Election Commission, today the Election Commission wants to make it clear to everyone that the Election Commission fearlessly stood like a rock with all the voters ....
of all sections and all religions including the poor, rich, elderly, women, youth without any discrimination, is standing and will continue to stand,” CEC Kumar said on Sunday, Aug 17.
BJP's candidate for Vice President polls - C P Radhakrishnan -- 'talk of the town'
The Sunday, Aug 17, came as a pleasant surprise of Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan.
PM Narendra Modi's decision has stumped the opposition.
The choice is "important politically" when seen through the prism of Tamil Nadu state politics, say analysts.
Radhakrishnan is also an OBC belonging to the Gounder community - the same as Edappadi Palaniswami and K Annamalai - two key names in Tamil Nadu politics.
Palaniswami served as the 7th chief minister of Tamil Nadu, from 2017 to 2021. He has been heading the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) since March 28, 2023 and is now the leader of the opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Annamalai is the 'popular' former IPS officer and is now the vice president of BJP - Tamil Nadu unit.
The lotus party now hopes to make a deeper penetration among this community especially in the context of next year's assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.
Even when he lost the polls, Radhakrishnan always got more than 30 percent of the vote in Coimbatore - both with and without an alliance partner.
In other words, his personal popularity is crucial in the industrial constituency.
