US Prez sings "music to Putin's ears" ::::: This is almost Russia conquers 'White House man' :::: Trump pitches new line for ending Russia-Ukraine war ::: Says -- Ceasefire is “good to have” ...... but adds - "We can work a peace deal while they’re fighting"

Trump says ceasefire not necessary to negotiate an end to war

Asked if there will still be “severe consequences” for Russia if a ceasefire isn’t agreed, as he previously said, Trump says:

I don’t think you need a ceasefire.

He says a ceasefire is “good to have” but he could understand why one country might not want one.

Thanking Trump for his efforts to end the 3.5-year-old conflict, Ukraine President Zelenskyy said, "Thank you very much for your... personal efforts to stop killings and stop this war. We want it to end good for everybody. The people of Ukraine have suffered."

"We can work a peace deal while they’re fighting.

They have to fight. I wish they could stop, I’d like them to stop, but strategically that could be a disadvantage for one side or the other.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders are holding Ukraine talks with Donald Trump at the White House.

Trump says the US will be involved in providing security guarantees for Ukraine as part of any peace deal and "make sure it works"

A ceasefire is not needed to negotiate ending the conflict, says Trump.

US President Donald Trump met his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a high-stakes meeting at the White House, nearly six months after both leaders were involved in a heated showdown at the Oval Office.

Earlier Trump said:

"We're going to have a meeting. I think if everything works out well today, we'll have a trilateral and I think there will be a reasonable chance of ending the war when we do that".

Unlike the February meeting where tensions simmered between Trump and Zelenskyy over Ukraine's security guarantees, Monday's meeting was more open, with both leaders smiling and chuckling as they conversed and calmly took questions from reporters.

Trump said a "good progress" was being made and said it was an "honour" to have Zelenskyy with him at the Oval Office, a stark contrast to his confrontational tone with the Ukrainian leader during the Feb 28 meeting.

Zelenskyy signals his support for a meeting with the US and Russian leaders and says Ukrainians support Trump's plans to end the war in a "diplomatic way"

What do the US, Ukraine, Russia and Europe want out of the talks and what are the key sticking points?

When Zelenskyy was asked what security guarantees he needed from Trump, he mentioned training missions and intelligence sharing as key components needed to strengthen the Ukrainian army.

Trump to call Putin later

Trump says he just spoke to Putin indirectly, and will speak to him again after these meetings today “and we may or may not have a [trilateral meeting].”

“He’s expecting my call when we’re finished with this meeting,” Trump says.
