With BJP Govt to come soon in Kolkata, Bangladesh National Party (BNP) eyes Teesta breakthrough ... cordial bilateral ties

On the results of West Bengal assembly elections, BNP Information Secretary Azizul Baree Helal said:

"Previously, we saw that Mamata Banerjee was actually the impediment to establishing the Teesta Barrage. Now, in my opinion, since the BJP won the election under Suvendu Adhikari's leadership, the Teesta Barrage agreement, which was very much desired by the Bangladesh government and the Modi government, be helped by Suvendu...".

He told ANI in Dhaka that : "I am stunned that in West Bengal, TMC, was massively defeated after holding power for a long time. I congratulate the winner, Suvendu Adhikari's BJP. This victory of the BJP, under the leadership of Suvendu Adhikari, will ensure the relationship between West Bengal and the Bangladesh government remains the same as before, in a good manner"

Voting Day - April 29 -- Purba Bardhaman

"... I hope a peaceful relationship will be built between India and Bangladesh..."

He further said: "We have a good relationship. Ideologically, we are different, but on some issues, we are very much united, like the Teesta Barrage and the general relationship between Bangladesh and India...".

Following the swearing in of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), both nations have started to move past previous tension and focus on improving relations.

India is one of Bangladesh's largest trading partners and a key development partner. However, trade has experienced challenges due to border issues, and the need for a stable environment is crucial for ongoing projects like the Akhaura-Agartala Rail Link and energy projects by Adani/Reliance.

Recently, the Modi Govt announced appointment of Dinesh Trivedi as the new High Commissioner to Bangladesh. A Gujarat-born politician, Trivedi can speak Bangla and it is assumed such a quality will prove an asset in building up people to people relationships.
