Bengal elections : Politics over Jahangir :::: "Illegal Bangladeshi settlements, land grabbing, and cross-border drug supply" ... Ting tong !! "right hand" man of Bhaipo

"Do you know why the entire Trinamool is rattled by the action against Jahangir Khan? ," says BJP West Bengal unit.

"Jahangir has turned the Sundarban area into a ‘Lyari,’ where activities like trafficking of women, illegal organ trade, and the movement of illegal arms and ammunition from Bangladesh take place.

"Illegal Bangladeshi settlements, land grabbing, and cross-border drug supply networks also operate there, all under Jahangir Khan. He is the right-hand man of Bhaipo, and was created by Bhaipo after finishing Shokat Molla!!

'10 lifetimes won't be enough': TMC's Abhishek Banerjee dares BJP to contest from Falta after repolling was ordered.

The high-stakes West Bengal Assembly elections will come to a close as the results in 293 of 294 constituencies that voted in two phases determine a Trinamool Congress comeback or BJP's first-ever victory in the state.

One constituency will remain part of the continuing poll process amid charges of severe electoral offences and subversion of the democratic process during April 29 elections - Falta.

The Election Commission ordered a repoll in all 285 polling booths of the Falta Assembly constituency of the South 24 Parganas district on May 21 under stringent security arrangements to ensure a free, fair and transparent exercise. Counting of votes for the constituency will take place on May 24.

On Saturday, repolling was held in 15 booths in Paschim Magrahat and Diamond Harbour Assembly constituencies.

In Falta, TMC's Jahangir Khan is pitted against BJPs Debangshu Panda and Abdur Razzak Molla of the Congress. CPI(M)s Sambhu Nath Kurmi is also in the fray.

The poll body said reports from observers flagged allegations of voter intimidation, unauthorised presence inside booths and possible tampering.

On the day of voting, Panda claimed that at booth number 177 at Falta, the EVM button for the BJP candidate was covered by a tape. Central forces reached the spot, removed the tape, and voting resumed thereafter.

Senior BJP leader Tathagata Roy, former Governor in Tripura and Meghalaya, says:

"West Bengal state was created in 1947, as the homeland of Bengali Hindus. Because the Bengal Presidency was Muslim-majority,

Jinnah wanted to fully incorporate it into Pakistan. Through Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee's efforts, the Hindu-majority areas were separated to form West Bengal. That's why we, Bengali Hindus, can live as proud citizens of India.

Now, a conspiracy is underway to reverse this. In West Bengal, where the Hindu proportion was 80% in 1951, it has now fallen below 70% due to Muslim infiltration and excessive reproduction. If the current government remains in power, within another ten years, Hindus will be cornered. Then, the horrific situation that Hindus face in Bangladesh today will happen in West Bengal too.

The process of revising the electoral roll, known as Special Intensive Revision (SIR), has been taking place in various states and territories across India - including West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and even UP and Bihar.

This move by the Election Commission is strongly defended and  justified by the Narendra Modi government as a way to stop “infiltrators” – a pejorative term largely referring to illegal Muslim Bangladeshi immigrants – from voting.

The exercise by the EC and the central government to “purify” the electoral roll – in the words of Home minister Amit Shah – has led to a chorus of fury.

The drawing up of a new electoral register was carried out at unprecedented speed, ahead of the West Bengal state elections.

The TMC had strongly opposed it and there were a series of legal battles in the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court.

The BJP certainly hopes  to seize power from Trinamool Congress this year.

Mamata Banerjee has ruled the state for 15 years beginning 2011 and prior to that for 34 years since 1977, the communists were in power in the state. Both the Left Frront and TMC under Mamata have been pursuing politics of Muslim appeasement and in the process, more often they have seemingly backed the illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators.

All those removed here are Muslims’ -- This claim has complexities and must be taken with a pinch of salt.

In Sherpur village of Murshidabad district, near the Bangladesh border, among those deleted was 36-year-old Jaber Ali, who was one of the officials tasked with collecting documents for the voter roll revision.

Over four months, Ali visited more than 700 households, checked documents and uploaded records late into the night. The work was relentless, he said. “I worked 12 hours in the field, then spent most nights on the computer. I barely slept.”

But when the revised rolls were published in late February, Ali said most of those he verified were missing, including his own name. “People started calling me, saying I hadn’t done my job,” he said.

“The irony is my own name, and my brothers’ were also removed.” (as reported by 'The Guardian', London).

The foreign media and English newspapers and a few websites have been generally opposed to the politics of Narendra Modi and in the process, they too have often backed the Bangladeshi illegal immigrants.

Western media and even others pushed a line that "lifelong Indian citizens" feared being treated as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and pushed out of the country.

Ali believes the deletions in his area followed a pattern. “All those removed here are Muslims,” he said. “People feel they are being targeted and stripped of their voting rights.”

There are always chances of misreporting taking such examples as general pattern. The fact of the matter is influx of Bangladeshi Muslims is a reality and states such as Assam and West Bengal have paid a big price for this.

Even economists and a few controversial headline hunters such as Parakala Prabhakar, have emphasised that swathes of citizens being unilaterally removed from the electoral roll had grave implications that went far beyond just state elections.
