India achieves 100 cr Covid jabs:::: Shashi Tharoor compliments Namo Govt, 35 lakh record Vax per day, 10 times more than France

"Aaj ekis October, 2021...Itihas mein darj ho gaya (Today's achievement has ensured a permanent place for 21st October, 2021 in the pages of history)," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

100 crore jabs: 'Down down' prophets of doom, India is now 'vaccination capital'

Shashi Tharoor compliments Namo Govt, 35 lakh record Vax per day, 10 times more than France

New Delhi:

The Congress party presented a divided house on vaccination drive and campaign.

India's vaccination count were not only great by sheer numbers. Sources say
India administered 35 lakh doses per day, which stood at 22 lakh more than the US figures and also as many as 28 lakh more than Japan.

India administered five times more doses than Japan, nine times more than Germany, and ten times more than France.

Statistics also say it took 85 days to administer the first 10 crore doses, it completed the last 10 crore in just 19 days.

A path-breaking change in entire laggard vaccination programme came when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the entire operation would be handled by the central government.

This was decided after states after states failed even to procure enough doses as the manufacturers were not showing trust in the provincial regimes.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the average doses per day has improved to 60 lakh after June 21,  when the Centre took over the entire vaccine procurement and supply management.

Prior to this, it hardly 18 lakh per day.

This was the return of a vintage Narendra Modi.

On June 7, in his ninth national broadcast since the Covid-19 pandemic began, Prime Minister Modi  announced major changes in vaccination policy.

"Desh ki kiso bhi rajyo sarkar ko vaccine par kucch bhi kharch nahi karna hoga
(No state government will henceforth have to spend any money on vaccines),"
Modi had said.

He said free vaccines for citizens over the age of 18 beginning June 21, as well as the centralised vaccination. His speech came at a time when several states including Maharashtra and Delhi, have begun the process of unlocking and there were all sorts of apprehensions and skepticism.

Congress different versions:

The beleaguered Congress presented itself as a divided house on Oct 21, 2021, which Modi said has turned a historic day.

"This is a matter of pride for all Indians. Let’s give the Government credit," tweeted Congress MP and former Union Minister, Shashi Tharoor.

He, however, said, the government would remain 'accountable' for earlier failures.

But Congress spokesman differed with the articulate Tharoor and tweeted in response stating - "Giving credit to govt is an insult to millions of families who suffered and are still suffering from the after effects and side effects of widespread Covid mismanagement".

Congress confusion over the issue of vaccination drive came to light the other day when Congress national president Sonia Gandhi said now most members of CWC have been vaccinated twice and thus could safely attend the party meetings in person.

Failures synonymous of Negativity

The Congress has never been very enthusiastic about the jab drive and campaign.

Instead, its state governments in Punjab and Rajasthan came under attack for different reasons vis-a-vis vaccination issue.

In Ashok Gehlot-ruled Rajasthan, there were charges of 'dumping' of vaccines; in Punjab there was an alleged scam as jabs were made available at private hospitals at a much higher price.

India achieves 100 crore Covid jabs:

New Delhi:

The 100 crore vaccination target is no small achievement. It is a more satisfying achievement actually due to more reasons than one.

"Aaj ekis October, 2021...Itihas mein darj ho gaya (Today's achievement has ensured a permanent place for 21st October, 2021 in the pages of history)," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

Firstly, the gigantic size of the country. At times, there were opposition-ruled states who did not take the Vaccination drive on a mission mode for initial months. Then the political skepticism that resulted in vaccination hesitation among a large section of people too.

But, what counts in the ultimate analysis is the results, and that came hard way bringing in smiles on the face of millions of health workers, the stakeholders in pharma companies and of course other stakeholders in the government and country's health system.

"Congratulations, PM Narendra Modi, the scientists, health workers & people of India, on your efforts to protect the vulnerable populations from COVID19 and achieve vaccine equity targets," tweeted Tedros A. Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) giving a global pat on the back of those Indians who worked for this momentous occasion.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur sums up the national mood aptly when he says, "I congratulate everyone for achieving 100 crore vaccination mark. We achieved it despite an atmosphere of apprehensions".

Union Health Minister Mansukhbhai Mandaviya on Thursday launched a song and audio-visual film to celebrate the major milestone of achieving the 100 crore Covid-19 vaccination mark.

J P Nadda, BJP national chief, too was glad.  "India has achieved 100 crore COVID19 vaccinations in less than 10 months. This shows our government's commitment towards the health safety of every person in the country. I extend heartfelt thanks to PM Modi and express gratitude towards healthcare & frontline workers," said Nadda, who was also Union Health Minister in Modi 1.0 for sometime.

"Bharat Biotech is proud to have contributed to this historic landmark. This is a unified effort of the Govt, vaccine manufacturers, healthcare workers and all the vaccinated citizens, making it a true success story of Atmanirbharta," said Dr Krishna Ella, Chairman MD

NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant too was enthusiastic about the achievement. "Seeing scale and size we've achieved it in less time. It's a result of our collective effort. Out of 100 crore vaccination doses, 30-35 crore are double doses-more than the population of countries like Indonesia, US; shows India as a vaccination capital".

Announcements were made in airports, railway stations and elsewhere.

Overcoming the hurdles:

The achievement finally shows any determined effort is bound to bring in a satisfactory outcome.

"Rahul Gandhi ji asks where is the vaccine for our children. That vaccine is in the garbage in Rajasthan and profits are being made on that vaccine in Punjab," thus spoke Union Minister and BJP leader Hardeep Singh Puri not long ago.

"..... This is the culture of Congress,” Puri had directed his ire against the Congress party for abusing vaccines including dumping them in Rajasthan and on the other hand question the centre and BJP leadership about efficacy of the system.

Citing the data of Covid-19 vaccination in Punjab, Puri had said the figures showed that the Congress dispensation in the northern state indulged in profiteering by overcharging for the vaccines.

One dose of Covishield vaccine, which costs ₹309, has been sold at ₹1,560 through private hospitals, Puri alleged.

Prior to that there were leaders such as Akhilesh Yadav, a former UP CM and Samajwadi chief. He had called the vaccines 'Bhajpa (BJP) vaccines' saying he will not take the shot.

Negativity has many images

Very few top Congress leaders including the likes of Rahul Gandhi have been seen photographed or videographed with vaccine jabs.

The Mamata Banerjee-ruled West Bengal had vaccine scam and even a Trinamool MP was supposedly 'trapped' to take a fake jab.

The police arrested Debanjan Deb on June 23 for allegedly posing as an IAS officer and organising a COVID-19 vaccination camp,

But in the CWC meet lately, Sonia Gandhi claimed most Congress leaders have been 'vaccinated'.

"Congratulations, PM Narendra Modi, the scientists, health workers & people of India, on your efforts to protect the vulnerable populations from COVID19 and achieve vaccine equity targets," Tedros A. Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO)

‘Illicit drug activities' & Conscious possession work against Aryan ::::: Shah Rukh's son denied bail again

New Delhi :

The NDPS Court has rejected the bail plea of film star Shah Rukh Khan's Aryanon Wednesday and ruled that through whatsapp chat it is "reflected that he was indulging in illicit drug activities".

The special court has said that since his friend who was traveling with him was found with contraband and he (Aryan Khan) had its knowledge, it amounted to ‘conscious possession’.

"If any of the accused is released on bail, it will hamper the entire investigation," the order said.

Aryan and his friend Arbaaz Merchant were arrested together at the international cruise terminal where they were to board the cruise to Goa on October 2. Six others were also arrested on thefirst day and later some more people have been apprehended.

Six grams of charas was allegedly seized from Merchant. The court also relied on their voluntary statements where it is alleged that they had said that they were to consume the contraband together on the cruise.

"....though no criminal antecedents are there, from Whatsapp chats of Aryan Khan it is reflected that he was indulging in illicit drug activities," the court said.

"If the applicant is released on bail, there are every chances of tampering with the evidence," it ruled adding, during the interrogation they "disclosed" names of persons who supplied contrabandto them. Thus, the court stated: "...all these facts prima facie go to show that the accused acted in conspiracy with each other".

"Perusal of Whatsapp chats reveals that there are chats of accused number 1 (Aryan) about drugs with unknown persons. There is also reference to bulk quantity and hard drugs in the chats. There is prima facie material showing that accused number 1 was in contact with persons dealing in prohibited narcotic substances alleged by the prosecution,” the court said.

Notably, special judge V V Patil said, “WhatsApp chats prima facie reveals that accused number 1 (Aryan) is dealing in illicit drug activities of narcotic substances on a regular basis. Therefore it cannot be said that accused no 1 is not likely to commit a similar offence while on bail".

In the meantime, actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan later in the day moved the Bombay High Court for bail.

The 23-year-old Aryan Khan is now lodged at the Arthur Road Jail.

The Special Judge also rejected the bail pleas of Arbaaz Merchant (26) and Munmun Dhamecha.

Aryan Khan had sought bail on the argument that there has been no recovery of possession of contraband directly from him.

RMP to host Conference on Modi’s ‘Governance model' and effective delivery

New Delhi:

The much talked about three farm laws, Prime Minister's overall Governance Model and various facets of Garib Kalyan initiatives and Mr Narendra Modi's foreign policy moves would come under closer scrutiny at a three-day national conference.

The meet is being organised from October 27 by think tank, Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini (RMP) in coordination with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) under the theme 'Reviewing Two Decades of Narendra Modi as Head of Government'.

The Central government and the ruling BJP have already held grand celebrations to mark Prime Minister Modi’s 20 years in office first as a Chief Minister of Gujarat and then as the Prime Minister.

"Modi's Chief Ministerial tenure became the yardstick to measure the performance of other Chief Ministers in India," the organisers have said.

Answering questions at a media briefing, Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, who is the

vice-chairman of RMP, said a discussion is likely on the three agricultural laws over which agriculturists

and other stakeholders are now in agitation since November 2020.

Mr Modi’s tenure in office first as Gujarat chief minister for 13 years and now Prime Minister since 2014 May are important milestones in the country's democratic process, Dr Sahasrabuddhe said.

“There will be sessions on Modi ji’s economic and foreign policies, new education policy, his philosophy

of garib kalyan and how the poor have benefited from the various schemes," he said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the event on October 27 while BJP national president

J P Nadda will address the valedictory event on October 29.

The organisers, RMP have said that "While Modi's extraordinary oratory skills, relationship building, ability to pay attention to small details and nuances make him a unique leader; what sets him apart is his ability to deliver on the commitments he makes to the citizens".

"During the last two years, the way Prime Minister Modi has managed the pandemic in India is a case study on effective governance," the RMP stated.

Among others, some senior and ex-bureaucrats who have worked closely with the Prime Minister are also likely to attend the conference.

The deliberations on Modi's foreign policy will be held on October 28. Former Maharashtra Chief

Minister Devendra Fadnavis is also likely to attend the three-day event.

The 'Salient Features of Modinomics', Farm Sector Reforms and Modi Government, Skill Development moves and 'The Art of Implementation during Modi period' are some of the themes of the conference.

British Foreign Secretary Ms Truss to arrive India on a three-day visit

New Delhi  :

British Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss, who is also Commonwealth and Development Affairs Minister, will pay a three-day official visit to India from October 22, Friday.

An MEA announcement said that during her stay in New Delhi, Ms. Truss will hold talks with Minister of External Affairs, Dr S Jaishankar on October 22 on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.

As part of the visit, Ms. Truss will travel to Mumbai on October 23.

It may be stated that during the India-UK Virtual Summit between the two Prime Ministers held on 4 May, 2021, the bilateral relationship between the two nations was elevated to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The ties have been marked by regular high level exchanges and growing cooperation in diverse areas.

Ms. Truss’ visit will be an opportunity to review the Roadmap 2030 launched during the Virtual Summit. This will also further deepen the partnership across various sectors like trade, science and technology, innovation, defence, climate, education and health sectors, the MEA release said.

During the last week, two important meetings between two sides were held in London and Brussels.

The second India-UK Multilateral Dialogue was held on Monday,18 October 2021 in London.

It may be mentioned that in a major push to bilateral ties between India and the United Kingdom, the two foreign ministers held the inaugural Maritime Dialogue in a virtual format on Monday, October 18.

The virtual deliberations between External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and his British counterpart

Ms Truss were held as part of the broad agreement drawn in the India-UK Roadmap 2030 for future

relations.

Britain recently relaxed norms on Covid vaccines giving ease to Indians travelling to that country.

The bitterness of 'tit-for-that' rhetoric seems to be over.

Making the United Kingdom understand things in a language it understands better, on October 1, the Indian government decided to impose 'reciprocity' on all British nationals arriving in India from the UK with regard to vaccine and Covid19 protocols.

But now these things appear to have been resolved and ties are back to normalcy and cordial.
