There was tension and angry-noisy protest !! @Jamia-Shaheen Bagh

A major scuffle was triggered after policemen tried to stop the Jamia protesters. Many of them jumped over barricades !

Jamia Millia Islamia proctor Waseem Ahmed Khan appealed to the students to disperse and not meddle with the police. "Respect the law and peacefully go back," he urged.

"All these exit polls will fail. Save my tweet...," Manoj Tiwari, BJP

The BJP is referring to the exit poll predictions of the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections. The exit polls in 2017 had hinted at the formation of an AAP government in Punjab, whereas the Congress finally took over the reins of power.

Amit Malviya, IT cell chief of BJP said the counting will reveal "shocking results". He said the sudden increase on Feb 8 polling day augurs well for the BJP.

"The Election Commission confirmed the turnout of 62.59% in Delhi. This is almost two per cent more than the 2019 Lok Sabha polls," which makes the matter "more interesting". - Amit Malviya

Pravesh Verma, West Delhi MP - the BJP could end up picking up 50 seats. Four seats may go to Congress and 16 seats for AAP.

POLITICAL HOT POTATO

The Supreme Court ruled that states are not bound to provide reserved seats for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Class in appointments and promotions.

The Centre has recently urged the top court to refer its last year's verdict excluding the creamy layer within the SC/ST community from reservation benefits to a 7-judge bench for a review.

A 5-judge Constitution bench in 2018 held that the well-off members of the SC and Scheduled Tribe ST communities cannot be granted the benefits of reservation in college admissions and government jobs.

Supreme Court in a case had said that the Constitutional courts in implementing the principal of reservation will be within their jurisdiction to exclude the creamy layer from such groups or sub-groups from quota benefits by applying the principle of equality.

Ram Vilas Paswan welcomed "the decision of the Hon'ble Supreme Court to uphold SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act, 2018.The Central govt is committed to protecting SC/STs from atrocities and their constitutional rights, and today the apex court has also put its stamp on it".

A preliminary inquiry is not essential before lodging an FIR under the act nor is the approval of senior police officials, said a bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra.

"Can a four-month-old child be taking part in such (Shaheen Bagh) protests?", the Supreme Court said while warning two women lawyers for making "explosive submissions" that children participating in the protests against the Citizenship Amended Act(CAA) are being called names, 'terrorist', 'gaddar' (traitor), 'Pakistani'.

The four--month-old baby had passed away in his sleep on the night of January 30 after returning from Shaheen Bagh.
