Sabka boss doesn't like India's rise: Rajnath Singh's swipe at Trump over tariffs

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh slammed US President Donald Trump's tariff threats, asserting that despite efforts to hinder India's growth by making Indian products expensive, no global power can stop India from becoming a major world power.

"There are some people who are not happy with the speed at which India is developing. 

They are not liking it. 'Sabka boss toh hum hain', how is India growing at such a fast pace?," the Defence Minister said, reflecting on the diplomatic turbulence.

"Many are trying to ensure that products made in India, by Indian hands, become more expensive than those made in other countries, so that when prices rise, the world will stop buying them. 

This effort is underway. But India is advancing so rapidly that I say with full confidence: no power in the world can now stop India from becoming a major global power," the minister affirmed.  

New Delhi has, however, continued a strong bilateral ties with Russia and also made it clear that the purchase of Russian oil will persists as long as it is in India's interests.  

The US President threatened further tariff hikes and secondary sanctions, demanding that India halt its deals with Russia. 

He even dismissed India’s economy as “dead,” while his close aides accused New Delhi of financing Russia’s war in Ukraine.

India has strongly responded to the tariff announcements, describing the US measures as “unfair, unjustified, and unreasonable,” and reaffirmed that it will “take all necessary actions” to protect its national interests.

Defending energy ties with Russia, the government said that crude oil imports are driven by market dynamics and aimed at ensuring the energy security of India’s 1.4 billion citizens. It also highlighted that several other countries engage in similar procurement to safeguard their national interests and expressed disappointment at being singled out on this issue.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the developments with a strong message to Trump at a recent event, emphasising that India will put its national interests first, even if it means bearing a heavy cost. 

He made it clear that the country will continue to support its farmers and absorb the impact of America's steep tariffs. “For us, the interests of our farmers are the highest priority. India will never compromise on the welfare of farmers, fishermen, and dairy workers.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took a veiled dig at United States President Donald Trump's description of India as a "dead economy".

He asserted India is marching towards becoming one of the world's top three economies.

Addressing a public event in Bengaluru, PM Modi said the momentum India has gained stems from a spirit of reform, performance, and transformation backed by clear intentions and honest efforts.

"We are rapidly moving towards becoming the top third economies. 

This speed came to us from the spirit of reform, perform, and transform. This speed came to us from clear intention and honest efforts. 

In 2014, Metro was limited to only five cities. And now there is a network of more than 1000 km in 24 cities," the Prime Minister said.
