Do Nadda, B L Santhosh realise the blunder of 20:40 formula?
New Delhi
Has BJP launched its Nagaland Strategy-2.0?
The NDPP had played a smart game. It wanted to win 2023 as a "friend' of BJP and making optimum use of 'Narendra Modi factor', but yet wanted to keep the Lotus party crippled in Nagaland.
Least this would appear to many to be implausible speculation; it will be worth recalling that the BJP is essentially a party of workers - fascinatingly addressed as Karyakartas.
Who misled high command? The skeptics should be made to recall that no one believed a woman leader would be deputed to be saffron party's Rajya Sabha member. But in 2021, we saw that happening.
'Karyakarta' Phangnon Konyak was rewarded. That she came from Mon district gave an added advantage to the BJP high command. This time too, the party workers want the notorious Seat Share formula reviewed and the leadership would give weight to this.

The NDPP's zig zag path of political journey has been around corridors of power. This happens with
opportunistic party hoppers.
The bad news is that the 'silence' we see around is not out of any sense of discipline or dedication. The
autocratic style has become suffocating for many and already a handful of NDPP leaders are making a bee line to
Delhi for the great saffron embrace. What was the hurry or necessity to react to the ED probe news item. To be quizzed is not a crime, even NDPP leaders agree.
Since July, BJP national president J P Nadda, general secretary (Organisation) B L Santhosh and
a backroom strategist V Satish have visited Nagaland. On the face value all these are dubbed as
routine pre-election tours; but in the background and in behind the scene shenanigans
some things have happened which made high command raise eyebrows.
While the 20:40 formula was a high command driven move faithfully executed by a pro-NDPP, BJP-charge Nalin Kohli, the central leadership is reportedly reassessing Himanta Biswa Sarma's feedback too.
In between Sarbananda Sonowal has been included in BJP's highest policy making body the Parliamentary Board.
Nadda, Satish and Santhosh -- all three got a good feedback that the BJP can definitely contest and win more seats than the share of 20 - what was almost seen as a surrender before the regional partner.
Neither of them will publicly disown or contradict a move that has been endorsed by Home Minister Amit Shah -- but all three can frankly and candidly tell him -- spade is a spade and that the story of 'Nagaland 2023" is Lotus blooming !
Enthusiastic BJP line is once Solution to Naga issue comes, there will be saffron sweep if not Tsunami. Money, Gun and Kohima factors may not help.
Now, comes another chapter. The good news is that the state of Nagaland seemed to have dodged a mega and
catastrophic political crisis.
Open publicity about a Chief Minister being grilled could have resulted in demand for his replacement.
The central government is not ready for anything like that as of now - especially when NSCN(IM)-NNPG leaders
meeting is on cards.
Even if ED quizzing the Chief Minister is a 'fake news'; the NDPP has now created a firewall of its own.
That security wall is a 'prison' of its own making. Now, for any future defection games in NDPP; the regional outfit
cannot blame the BJP for abusing ED as any such allegation would contradict NDPP's and CMO's denial version.
What motive does a harmless CBI-beat reporter will have against a Chief Minister who is BJP's ally is
any body's guess?
The renewed corruption talk in the corridors of power in Nagaland could be linked to Rio's hidden and open
detractors.
Regionalist Shurhozelie told me in August that his party will "wake up on time". That could also mean that he
would strike at the right moment. T R Zeliang is now a NDPP legislator and so if a Chief Minister in office has to bow
out of office on issues of propriety, as a former CM he could be a natural choice.
Moreover. Zeliang's nexus with a section of BJP is open secret. A few NDPP sitting legislators and also those
who lost 2018 polls are shunting around Delhi. This shows their love for 'regional cap' is over and a saffron
scarf could be latched on anytime.
In days to come, it is expected that 'leadership' issue would be raised at the UDA level and here some permutation
and combination could be worked out by anti-Neiphiu Rio forces.
Well, it is easily said there is 'no smoke without fire'. But in the case of ED-Rangapahar episode, who lit the
candle light?
If it's a 'plant', is it a hidden 'BJP hand' which held the seeds of the plant?
No Nagaland BJP leader can afford to work with such 'plants'.
Do not let it happen all over again.
