Congress could not have it so 'bad' in its history, Mamata says there's "no UPA"

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his onetime mentor L K Advani had dreamt about a day when the country's oldest political outfit that had surrendered to dynastic tantrums for long would be marginalised.

Narendra Modi - around the time 2013-14 and on his mission to become Prime Minister - had given a clarion call for a 'Congress Mukt Bharat'. The sycophancy club and liberals including a large section of national media had ridiculed BJP's prime ministerial candidate.

The Dynastic 'Hand'

Now that 'dream' of Advani and Modi are perhaps coming true.

It is literally being done by a former Congress leader, flamboyant Mamata Banerjee, who 'indirectly'got strategic support from Congress in May elections earlier this year. The result was Mamata 'win' and Congress as well as Left strength was reduced to zero in West Bengalassembly. On Wednesday, she said perhaps the ultimate - that - "There is no UPA". The so called United ProgressiveAlliance was floated in 2004 and in 2009 UPA-2, Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress was part ofit.

The West Bengal Chief Minister has now deserted her former party - like a piece of waste paper.

Her rhetoric is a straight case of no confidence in Sonia Gandhi and her 'affectionate' son Rahul- that the Congress is no longer even fit to get a role to anchor the opposition unity to take on theBJP.

Ms Banerjee wants all 'regional parties' to come together and importantly, she made theremarks after meeting stalwart of Maharashtra politics and NCP founder Sharad Pawar.

She has also met Shiv Sena leaders Aditya Thackeray and Sanjay Raut and paradoxically,Sena and NCP run a coalition government along with Congress.

“What UPA? There is no UPA anymore. We will sit and decide on how to form a new block,” Ms Banerjee was categorical and she made the remarks with NCP chief Pawar standing by her side after their meeting in Mumbai. Do not be surprised even Sharad Pawar is a former Congressman - who had raised the foreign origin bogeyagainst Italy-born Sonia Gandhi in 1999.

For Congress now - it has an option to stand in a corner leaking wounds like a proverbialaging and wounded tiger. The Congress under Rahul Gandhi suffered two major defeats in 2014 and 2019 - even losingout numbers to claim Leader of the Opposition recognition in Lok Sabha.

However, a 'blind love' of mother Sonia and the machinations of the sycophants have created a situationto continue to give the 'decisive powers' to Rahul Gandhi, who had resigned in 2019 after elections.

By their plans, the power brokers associated with Congress would only try to ensure that Rahul Gandhiis 're-elected uncontested' in a stage-managed organisational elections.

Lok Sabha sees 'no disruption', Junior Chidambaram talks about 'Hindu law'

New Delhi:

Lok Sabha was calm and quiet transacting its business religiously - debatingand discussing the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Bill, 2021.

The House remained in order on Wednesday and saw no disruption barring disruptionand adjournments in the morning hours.

The draft law seeks to set minimum standards as per global quality and codes of conduct for fertility clinics and egg/sperm banks in the country.

The ART Bill provides for the safe and "ethical practice" of assisted reproductive technology services.

The new law will be significant, say BJP members and government sources as India has already become the hub of the global fertility industry and medical tourism. The measures will 'regulate' India's fertility treatment industry. The bill came over a decade since the

Indian Council of Medical Research first drafted it in 2008.

During the debate, Congress member Karti Chidambaram made repeated references tothe Mahabharata and the Puranas and said: “Our epics have so many instances of unconventional births".

But, he said, “This law is not a Hindu law, it is actually a Victorian law.”

His grievance being - live-in couples, single men and the LGBTQ community have been exempted from the ambit of the Bill.

But BJP member Dr Hina V Gavit, a medico herself, defended the Bill stating that assisted reproductive technology has remained unregularised for a long time in India.

"Unfortunately, over a period of time, a lot of commercialisation has taken place," she pointed out.

“We see a lot of celebrities using surrogacy to have children and many celebrities who have already their biological children are also going for these surrogacy. This Bill will definitely ensure that people who are in need, the couples who are infertile, can avail the benefits of ART,"she said.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, “If there is no regulation, the unethical practices will increase".

“Many such ART clinics have been running in the country without regulation," he remarked.

However, due to protest from TRS members, Lok Sabha was adjourned twice in the morning hours.

The TRS members from Telangana were raising demand for MSP for farmers.
