Amrullah Saleh asks 'creepy occupier' Pak to inject cash into Afghan economy

New Delhi:

Afghan leader Amrullah Saleh, who still calls himself Vice President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, has now urged "creepy occupier" Pakistan to inject cash and save its "proxy".

"The Afghanistan banking sector isn't on the verge of collapse. It has already collapsed. Private Banks have zero deposit, interest earning is zero, loan recovery impossible, professionals + CEOs & owners gone & DAB is a dummy. Pak as the creepy occupier has to inject cash and rescue its proxy," he tweeted.

His missive in the micro blogging site came as the Taliban rule in war-ravaged Afghanistan completed 100 days on Nov 23.

The economic crisis faced by Afghanistan is now very much in public discourse across the globe and experts already say that the worst kind of humanitarian crisis would hit the country and its people.

Saleh, a powerful political figure in Afghanistan prior to Taliban takeover, has always been an outspoken critic of the Taliban and Pakistan.

He has survived assassination attempts as well.

Following the August 15, 2021 fall of Kabul to the Taliban, after the then President Ashraf Ghani fled the country, Saleh had relocated to the Panjshir Valley and also proclaimed himself the caretaker president of Afghanistan.

He announced the formation of the National Resistance Front to give last minute resistance to the Taliban after the US-led forces had already left.

However, at a later stage by September 6-7, Saleh himself moved to Tajikistan.

In another tweet, Saleh has targeted Pakistan for its complicity with the IS-K.

"For doubters, cynics, apologists and calculated liars: Pakistan denied O. Bin Laden in Pak until Abbottabad raid, denied Quetta Shura until opening of Qatar office, denied presence of Seraj Haqani in Pak until Aug 15 and now denies safe havens of  IS-K. Until when ?  Caption it," Mr Saleh tweeted.

Since August 15, ISIS-K has waged a deadly spate of suicide attacks and targeted bombings across multiple provinces of Afghanistan those claimed several lives including civilians.

ISIS Khorasan (ISIS-K), which is seen as a formidable anti-Taliban outfit, is also known as Daesh, and it wants effective implementation of the Sharia laws.

There have been reports of ISIS stating that "the main reason for everything in Afghanistan is Pakistan".

"When the Taliban were here (before the takeover) , they were saying that we control 80 percent of the country, but they were not implementing Islamic rulings. That's why we stood up in we started (ISIS-K) over here in this area," one leader was quoted.

In another missive on November 18, Saleh had said: "Strategically & financially Afghanistan has been the most rewarding battleground for Pak until Aug 15. Will it be so now ?  78 to 92 received billions of $ in the name of anti Soviet Jihad. 01 to 21 billions of $ in the name of war against terror... Is  IS-K  their new cash cow?".

If women athletes are 'abducted' by authorities, can China host Olympics 2022 ?

New Delhi:

China's grand preparation to host the 2022 Winter Olympics has hit a roadblock.
But, the International Olympic Committee is still backing Beijing. The row relates to the'disappearance' of three-time Olympian and tennis star, Peng Shuai.

Beijing

Her 'missing' coincides with a serious allegation of sexual assault made by her againsta topgun in Chinese Communists Party.

She reportedly accused Zhang Gaoli, 75, a former vice premier in China, of inviting her to his home about three years ago and coercing her into sex.
“That afternoon, I didn’t consent at first.... I was crying the entire time.”

Apparently, now, she has been 'silenced'  or forced to make censored and guarded statement and it is "frightening" to many that the authorities in China are not doing much against the perpetrators or wrongdoers who have possibly kidnapped the tennis star.

The Women’s Tennis Association and Wimbledon’s All England Lawn Tennis Club have expressed concern. But the International Olympic Committee is singing a different tune.Of course, it has earlier granted the 2022 Winter Olympics to Beijing despite China’s appalling human rights record.

Peng, 35, 'disappeared' from the public eye after she made sexual assault allegations against a senior minister.

An IOC statement, however, on Monday said - Peng appeared to be safe and well. But not many people are buying the line.

But the World Tennis Association said the recent videos "don't alleviate or address the WTA's concern about her wellbeing and ability to communicate without censorship or coercion", reported BBC.

But skepticism thrives.

In the last few days, purported emails have been 'leaked' claiming they were written by Peng and that she was fine. But most of these look scripted and unreal.

The sporting rights organisation, Global Athlete, criticised what it called the IOC's "nonchalant" approach to Peng's disappearance.

IOC is now accused of displaying "an abhorrent indifference to sexual violence and the well-being of female athletes".

"The release from IOC pretends that Peng never made sexual assault allegations and has not been missing for more than two weeks. The statements make the IOC complicit in the Chinese authority's malicious propaganda and lack of care for basic human rights and justice," Global Athlete has said.

Now, a debate has been kicked off whether China should be allowed to host the Olympics in 2022.

Spanish soccer star Gerard Piqué posted a tweet with the hashtag #WhereIsPengShuai.

Tennis luminaries including Naomi Osaka, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal and Billie Jean King have been speaking out in support of Peng.

For records so far, the Joe Biden administration and United Nations human rights office have joined the calls for Beijing to provide 'proof' of Ms Peng’s well-being, said 'The New York Times'.

PoK back as 'priority' in BJP agenda

New Delhi:

After having achieved and implemented Triple Talaq, abrogation of Art 370 and construction process for a grand Ram Temple at Ayodhya, it is natural that important 'nationalistic' programmes such as retrieving Pak-Occupied J&K is now on the agenda of the Modi government.

Modi and Strategists

"Retrieving Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) is next on the agenda," no lessthan Jitendra Singh, MoS in the PMO, has said this.

"PoK ke liye hum jaan de sakten haen" - Home Minister Amit Shah had said in Lok Sabha on Aug 6, 2019.

Shah also had said - "Kashmir is an integral part of India, there is no doubt about it. When I say Jammu and Kashmir, I include Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and Aksai Chin, both are included in the territorial boundaries of Jammu and Kashmir".

Importantly, Jitendra Singh had made the statement addressing the 'Mirpur Balidan Diwas' programme dedicated to PoJK displaced persons on Nov 21.

Singh also said that even after Pakistan attacked J&K in the autumn of 1947, India's first PM JawaharlalNehru was hesitant to send Indian forces.

It was only after intervention by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel that the first contingent of Sikh Regiment landed in Srinagar.

He further said, Nehru had on his own declared unilateral ceasefire and this disallowed the forces to retrieve the entire territory of Jammu and Kashmir captured by Pakistan.

There have been bitter and fierce political battle in the region on these issues.

PDP leader and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, has said PM Modi should hold a dialogue with Pakistan for a resolution to the Kashmir conflict.

The BJP and the Kashmiri Pandit leaders have always maintained that Pakistan is not a stakeholder in 'internal matters' of India. Thus, they said, the PDP's stance was like playing a 'proxy' card on behalf of Islamabad.

The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act 2019 was notified by the government on August 9, 2019, providing that the number of seats in the legislative assembly of Jammu and Kashmir shall be increased from 107 to 114.

The Kashmir valley region has 46 seats, the Jammu region has 37 seats. After delimitation, 7 more seats are likely to be added to the Hindu-dominated Jammu division.

Of these 24 seats fall under Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and excluding these, the effective strength of the new Assembly now would be 90 as compared to 83 prior to August 2019.

In September 2019, BJP's national vice president and Jammu and Kashmir in-charge, Avinash Rai Khanna, also had said that the 'dream' of integrating Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) with India will come true under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, also a former Union Minister and ex-J&K CM, has said on Monday that India and Pakistan have to hold talks for peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

Notably, his remarks come a day after Union Minister Jitendra Singh said retrieving Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) is on the agenda of the government of India.

100 days of Taliban rule bring devastation, Afghans see rise in child marriage

New Delhi

The Taliban had seized power in Afghanistan 100 days ago on August 15, 2021.
Now the country faces many problems including indiscriminate human right abuses
and serious economic crisis and that has led many Afghans to 'marry' off and virtually sell their young daughters to older men for 'dowries'.

"....Over the past 100 days, the rule of law has collapsed. The absence of appropriate mechanisms

to investigate abuses means that human rights violations remain largely unaddressed," said a statementment

from the International Federation of Human Rights.

It further said: "The Taliban’s severe repression of civil society has left no room for dissent, making it

harder, if not impossible, for those inside the country, to hold the Taliban to account for their actions."

Although journalists, activists, and protesters, including women and girls, have tried to speak out,

the Taliban has shown "no willingness" to address their concerns, instead violently suppressing those who

criticized them.

"All these violations have been committed with complete impunity. The rule of law in Afghanistan has

fully collapsed since the Taliban takeover, creating a situation in which lack of accountability for abuses prevails.

National courts are no longer functioning, while Taliban customary courts around the country continue their

work. Police and other law enforcement agencies are not carrying out their duties. Judges and prosecutors

live in fear of revenge attacks by former Taliban detainees," it said.

On the other hand, international media quoting women right activists and others say,

"Child marriage has increased in tandem with soaring poverty".

There are also reports of destitute parents even promising baby girls for future marriage

in exchange for dowries.

A report by news agency Reuters also claimed that the UN children’s agency UNICEF said there were

"credible reports of families offering daughters as young as 20-days old for future marriage in

return for a dowry".

Crippled by drought and economic collapse, Afghanistan is set to become the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

"As winter sets in, they said millions were on the brink of starvation, and 97 per cent of households could fall

below the poverty line by mid-2022," the report said.

Report by the International Federation of Human Rights said the Taliban rule has

"broken previous networks of support available to women".

For instance, it is unclear if shelters can continue to operate under Taliban rule. Shelters have been a

vital resource to women in a country where 35 percent of women experience intimate partner violence.

India has said time and again that it favours 'unhindered' access to provide assistance to the

people of Afghanistan.

“India's support to the people of Afghanistan is very clear. We have been extending

support over many years to all the people of Afghanistan," MEA spokesman Arindam Bagchi

has said recently.

He also pointed out that one of the key elements was "the need for unimpeded,

unhindered access for humanitarian assistance providers".
