"It was Nandigram type attack"
North Bengal is totally neglected by Mamata Di. Tea gardens closing. Rampant timber mafia. Tourism sector is suffering. Health infrastructure is crumbling. Illegal immigration of Rohingya Muslims is encouraged, putting national security at risk. North Bengal needs change. - Tejasvi Surya, BJP Yuva Morcha chief
New Delhi: Hours after police firing and indiscriminate attack on BJP workers and protesters by alleged 'Trinamool goons', senior BJP leader B L Santhosh led the charge against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and said her parents were erroneous in naming her so.
"....Your parents have chosen a most wrong word to name you," BJP general secretary (Organisation) B L Santhosh tweeted close on the heels the news spread that one BJP worker was killed in Siliguri.
The word 'Mamata' means compassion and thus by his tweet, Mr Santhosh suggested that there was 'no compassion' in Trinamool Congress supremo who is popularly known as 'Didi' in Bengal politics.
"Police are nothing but goondas in uniform. But Mamata, whatever you may do , your days are numbered . You will be remembered as most undemocratic, brutal , dictatorial CM ever," Mr Santhosh tweeted.
The missive came in reference to death of BJP worker Ulen Roy.
Violence erupted at Phulbari area of Siliguri town in north Bengal on Monday, Dec 7 after BJP workers protesting Trinamool Congress "misrule" clashed with police.
BJP Bengal chief Dilip Ghosh alleged: "It was Nandigram type attack jointly by policeand goons".
BJP national general secretary in-charge of Bengal, kailash Vijayvargiya said, the incident can beattributed to utter lawlessness meted out by the police. He also claimed that his vehicle too was attacked.Ghosh said the marks of country made bullets on the body of the deceased makes it clear that the bullets were not from police guns.
Sources said medical report on the deceased BJP worker Ulen Roy also mentioned that there were numerous pellet bullet marks on his body. Ghosh also claimed Ulen Roy was perhaps the victim of a "Nandigram style operation", in which the alleged killers sheltered behind police as they opened fire.
BJP MP and Yuva Morcha chief Tejasvi Surya, the firebrand Karnataka leaders, who also participated in a protest march along with Vijayvargiya and others, alleged: "Trinamool goons sheltered by police hurled bombs."
West Bengal Tourism Minister Gautam Deb, however, denied that the mishap had been triggered by police actions.
The BJP has called a 12-hour bandh in Siliguri and other parts of North Bengal on Tuesday, December 8.
“I am informed by our local karyakartas that Sri Ulen Roy, a senior BJP karyakarta, has succumbed to splinter injuries caused by the country bombs that Mamata’s police threw. This is murder. Nothing less. We are very angry. We will never forgive you Mamata Di. Om Shanti!” Surya tweeted.
