Pradyot should not go IPFT way and BJP should not go the Left way : Tripura Students' Fed. leader Hamalu Jamatia

"The Tipra Motha, regional party headed by Prodyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma, should make up its mind. It should not do the same mistake as IPFT which was BJP ally between 2018 and 2023. If BJP does not deliver and fail to keep its promises made to tribals, our Maharaja should walk out," commented general secretary Tripura Students Federation (TSF) Hamalu Jamatia.

In an interview with this blogger at Agartala, Jamatia maintained that the Lotus party will have to do lot of explanation during fast approaching 2028 assembly elections in Tripura.

"Forget governance issues and non performance of ministers and MLAs. The principal election issue in 2028 in our state will be infllux... The isssue of illigal immigration has various layers.. Hindu Bengalis, Muslim Bengalis and Buddhist Chakmas are pouring in and everybody feels nothing much is done," he said.

"Influx issue is not only harmful for indigenous tribals.... It is equally dangerous phenomenon for Bengali Hindus. Their share of the cake in government jobs will go. Worse for native tribals, Chakmas are taking away from tribal quotas also. And amid all that BJP governments both at Agartala and in New Delhi are not doing much," he said.

Answering to a specific question, he said : "In the context of what I have told you... therefore we think projecting Mr Prodyot as chief ministerial face will work definitely. He is a genuine political alternative as there is already a vaccum in leadership in our state".

Jamatia also claimed an electricity bill has surfaced that shows a senior politician's father paid power bill in Bangladesh. "Moreover, it is said even former Chief Minister Biplap Deb's mother had arrived Tripura only in 1971 from across the border".

Dwelling in details on various facets of tribal evolution in Tripura, he said the native tribals do not have much to cherish about the achievements. "Late Indira Gandhi had given autonomous district council in 1979 and later there was a peace agreement with TNV in 1988....what did we get after so many years".

Jamatia, however said -- "From tribal point of view, the BJP is far better than the Left... The communists were grossly anti tribals. That's why CPI-M imposed AFSPA and tribals suffer".

"In general sense, I can say the BJP should not follow the Left line and at the same time Tipra Motha should not follow the IPFT line," he said.

Of course in 2024 the Tripura Peace Accord was  signed on 4 September 2024, between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura and the insurgent groups NLFT and ATTF, thus ending the 34 year old Insurgency in Tripura.

To another question, he said the Left may go the West Bengal way in Tripura as well. By this statement, he meant the communists support base will further nosedive.

In 2021 assembly election in West Bengal not a single nominee from the Left parties could enter assembly.
