The Constitution has been reared for immortality .... It may, nevertheless, perish in an hour by the folly, or corruption, or negligence, of its only keepers, the PEOPLE" -
Joseph Story ...
This quote was referred to in the Constituent Assembly on Dec 9, 1946 by Sachchidananda Sinha. He was then provincial chairman of the Constitution assembly.
Come to circa 2026 -- we have made a fun of everything. And the notorious episode has been written by one politician -- and a woman- who has held constitutional positions for many years.
The tragedy is not a murder but the manner it has been done.
Disgracefulness has visited West Bengal and Kolkata and the Bengali community and it 'serves' right because for long this community has behaved as in-born-Sab Janta.
"We know all ... since our birth". The argumentative Bengali is Kolkata's creation and the disease became more than a norm under the Left. Wherever these so called Left-Liberals and Marxists went ... they took that culture.
Visit Tripura - the malady continues for two three generations and it will sustain some more time. Visit JNU ... your next destination could be an mental hospital !!
See the gloomy picture ... all intellectuals (essentially big time frauds) are silent. For long this club had one major problem - it was called Narendra Modi. Over the years, they opposed Modi and most often opposed Bharat, Hindustan and India the nation.
Send a Bengali from Nagaland to Kolkata and five years stay; he will become 'more of a Kolkata' syndrome. That's the dangerous part of the entire story.
Most of my friends, relatives in Kolkata or Tripura and Press Club of India (Delhi) have long stopped talking sense. That's the beauty of Brainwashing.
Satyajit Ray's masterpiece captured that very well with a few phrases - 'Mogoj Dhalai' (brain washing) and
"Janar kono shesh nai, Janar chesta britha tai" (It means - There is no end of knowing and hence ... there is no need to know). The dangerous part is in such eventuality - you think you know 'everything'.
Came in Vaccines during Covid. In Tripura, medical professions claimed it was 'glucose water' !
"Janar kono shesh nai, Janar chesta britha tai" - Mogoj Dholai ---- West Bengal ::: We have it all ... starts with "we know everything" ... the result is Mamata Banerjee and her team.
Bengal Assembly dissolved, Mamata Banerjee no longer Chief Minister
Mamata Banerjee had been stubborn in holding onto her Chief Minister's chair. But she is no longer the head of West Bengal as Governor R N Ravi used his constitutional powers on May 7th, 2026 , Thursday and dissolves the state assembly.
The finer aspects have to be understood - why I am cursing the Marxists where as lifelong Mamata fought against them. It's all magnetic pull.
She got 'brainwashed' (mogoj dholai) by default. She kept fighting the Left but slowly she was swallowed by the syndrome.
Then came her love for Bhai po.
Those of you Indian middleclass families - this Bua-Bhatija (or Pishi-Bhai po) things are dangerous by itself. I had my share of wonderful experience in a 'mad house' in Shillong -- because my dictatorial dad had decided to keep in "Pishi's house" for my studies.
I started being a full time patient since Class VIII. So in the context of West Bengal; this extra ordinary love between Pishi and Bhai po singularly contributed to her downfall.
Please note, TMC's downfall in more ways than one started with the rise of Bhai Po and a gang of Quiz jokers.
Seasoned parliamentarians such as Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Swagato Roy were sidelined.
Then comes another pheoomenon.
Mamata brought in a culture under which -- the word 'former' vanished from bureaucratic and political system.
So former DGPs, some chief secretaries ... all were made something or the other. One of them also insulted PM in office because he knew the 'boss' is a megalomania.
These steel-frame have to be done away. If possible, one can wish ... Modi will bring reform in that system where jokers, studious lot and ultimately comfort lovers become members of 'I am Sorry' club.
So in the case of Mamta - she started facing a hysterical situation. Why should someone call me former chief minister. Far off - in 2020 there was Trumpology and the same malady visited Kolkata.
The silence of several constitutional experts is sickening.
Governor R N Ravi used the constitutional powers vested in him under Article 174 (2)(b) of the Constitution of India.
"I hereby dissolve the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal with effect from 7th May, 2026," R N Ravi said in the official notice.
"So finally the Governor of West Bengal dissolves the assembly. And Mamata Banerjee lost her chance to remain relevant in politics. The end of her career is nigh… And Bengal will finally start healing, one step at a time," tweeted Mahesh Jethmalani.
There are two kinds of dissolution of an Assembly: one by the Governor’s decision, and the other by operation of the Constitution itself.
In the first case, the Governor may request the Chief Minister to continue as caretaker. In the second, by constitutional convention, the Chief Minister submits resignation and is then asked to continue only to avoid an executive vacuum.
But convention cannot be one-sided.
Once the Assembly is dissolved by constitutional mandate, the Council of Ministers has no House to which it remains collectively responsible under Article 164(2). Its democratic basis ends.
The Chief Minister can continue only as caretaker, not as if the mandate still survives.
If the Chief Minister refuses to follow constitutional convention, the Governor will withdraw his pleasure; and *withdrawal of his pleasure is tantamount to dismissal of a recalcitrant chief minister*
That ensures that constitutional governance, not personal entitlement, prevails.
But problem with many people in this world - is everything is personal.
It's high time -- West Bengal under BJP starts living what theatre personality Girish Ghosh had said about a century back - "Desher labh hi, amar labh (When things are good for the country; it shall be my goodness too").
Even my relatives will not agree.
