Can we have a situation or we are already in such a condition --- that ....
..
the protagonists of the story know well in advance that the world is about to go up in 'flames' – but yet they astonish everyone and do not change the course ??
What's really happening to the Naga peace talks ? Meetings and more meetings !!
There are players who are enjoying 'making things more complex and often in the garb of simplifying them' --- and there will be more and more Resolutions.
But the real push for sincere commitment for a road map - that looks result oriented is missing !!
Real crux of the debate required is still missing.
There's no much talk about a Common Draft !!
"I feel sorry for Nagas.... the Govt of India seems not serious. The MPs in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have never debated Naga issue. The Govt has also never put it on an agenda for deliberations. Even before Solution really comes, the elected members of parliament of a great democratic country like India ought to debate our issue," says K N Sekhose, senior social activist and former president of Angami Public Organisation (APO).
Answering questions, he further said --
"Talks are on now for 28 years ..... Govt of India said --- No Flag, No Constitution .... our people said Sovereignty ... integration.... and then are there other conditions? Govt also said no integration as I understand. Then what is Govt of India's next offer I do not know."
On the other hand, it is learnt that senior officials from the Union Home Ministry visited Nagaland recently yet again and met various Naga CSOs and underground groups.
At times we wonder -- they could be also deliberating about the roles to be played by organisations such as FNR.
I put this question about FNR to Sekhose also --- He responded: "I know Wati Aier is a senior man.... but in his team has many young leaders except himself. Without involvement of senior people, you cannot make much progress in these kinds of works".
In New Delhi, one growing refrain is -- until and unless the Naga people are really serious and come what openly 'what they want or what should be the ultimate shape of the Solution' .... the Govt of India will not make any unnecessary noise and forward movement to end up "burning our own fingers".
This is real paradox and predicament.
This brings us to the question we raised above. The world might go up in 'flames' – but they are not ready to change the course.
In the neighbourhood - we had Bangladesh and Nepal. These furies have stories of their own.
Many say about Nepal --- The social media ban was akin to rubbing the proverbial salt in the old wounds.
Nepal has over eight per cent of its population living and working overseas and the money they send back home amounts to a huge figures -- over 33 per cent of Nepal’s Gross Domestic Product.
Nepal is fourth in that category after Tonga, Tajikistan and Lebanon. Hence, Facebook and WhatsApp were vital for families to keep in touch with their loved ones.
These situations cannot be applied to Nagaland. But when it comes to 'salt' and festering wounds --- there will be quite a few reasons.
This over dose of Patience being applied especially after October 2019 and yet there is no let up in Extortion and other kinds of exploitation of the common people offer a rather dangerous combo.
A youthful Naga friend of mine is not quite good in Hindi. But he is a great Amitabh fan.
He keeps uttering one of those classic one-liners from Amitabh (in film Shakti) -- "I hate every rules (Kanoon) and constitutional provisions that my father likes".
We did discuss that dialogue once again. When I argued a bit, he countered yet again saying --
"Nepal or Bangladesh either jointly or separately could be my mirror image oh !! In Nagaland - not two -- multiple political parties have come together and doing what they are best at. Your ED guys in Delhi are also too busy. You cannot help Nagas".
I thought - I better settle for Vodka with my friend.
