Nation Salutes Covid-19 warriors: Indian Air Force conducts flypast across the country; Armed forces shower flowers on hospitals to thank Corona Warriors

Armed forces on Sunday

acknowledged the efforts of "corona warriors" in Karnataka in the fight against the pandemic with Indian Air Force helicopters showering flower petals on hospitals and the IAF band made a presentation.

An Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopter showered flower petals on doctors, nurses and staff at the Victoria Hospital, a designated COVID-19 hospital here.

The front-line workers too acknowledged the gesture by clapping and several of them clicking photos.

"We are doing our duty, we know the danger of the disease, but we come here and do as its our duty. Such gesture, that too from the Armed forces is great, it will help us keep going," a hospital staff said.

The Airforce band also performed at the Victoria Hospital on the occasion.

A similar activity was undertaken at the Command Hospital here as a mark of appreciation of those from the facility involved in testing of samples for COVID-19, Defence officials said.

They said the INS Vikramaditya ship, which is at Anchorage off Karwar coast, will be illuminated at 7.30 PM.

There will be a flypast by transport aircraftat C 130 J Hercules at 3.46 over Vidhana Soudha, the seat of state legislature and secretariat here, they added.

Meanwhile, the Defence Public Relations Office here tweeted that bands from Madras Engineer Group (MEG), Parachute

Regiment Training Centre (PRTC), Army Service Corps bands performed on Saturday thanking the corona warriors.

"Indian Army thanking all the #CoronaWarriorsIndia for their efforts in mitigating #Covid_19india crisis. Bands from #MEG, #PRTC, and #ASC performed at Vidhan Soudha, National War memorial and MG Metro stn respectively yest," it said.

The Naval choppers from the Eastern Naval Command here flew past the designated Covid-19 hospitals the state-run Chest and Communicable Diseases Hospital and the private Gitam Hospital on Sunday morning and showered flowers.

Doctors, nurses and paramedical staff lined up on the hospital premises and acknowledged the Defence forces gesture.

The ENC officers later felicitated the doctors and other medical staff in a thanksgiving gesture.

Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat had on Friday announced that the three services will carry out a series of activities to thank the "corona warriors".

Hospitals in Leh, Delhi, Mumbai , Kochi, Guwahati and Goa witnessed showering of petals from military - Air Force or Naval helicopters from 1000 hours on May 3 on the 40th day of  the nationwide Lockdown enforced since mid-night of March 24-25.

The efforts of the COVID-19 Warriors were also appreciated by Indian Coast Guard by illuminating the ships at 25 locations including Mumbai, Kochi, Chennai and Vizag covering the entire coastline of the country. 

Certainly an Imp. DAY. Army, Air Force and Navy Army jointly PAY RESPECT and honour to our all Corona Warriors, Doctors, Nurses, supporting Staff, Police Staff and our  all  Cleaning Staff others for continuing the fight against the unseen virus.



Expressing the solidarity and gratitude to healthcare workers, police and others at the frontlines of the battle against the Covid-19, the Indian Air Force, Army and Navy joined hands today and paid floral tribute, showering petals on hospitals. To show their support to Covid-19 warriors, flypasts, lit-up ships and musical tributes by army bands outside hospitals took place across the country. From Srinagar to Hyderabad, Mumbai to Itanagar, the flypasts by the air force and the navy added to the tribute.
On Friday, Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, with all three service heads, announced the "gesture of special gratitude" will consist of the Air Force conducting flypasts across the length and breadth of the country. Another "gesture of special gratitude" will be helicopters showering petals on hospitals and Army bands playing outside medical buildings in most districts, he said.
Commending this unique gesture Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, the Armed Forces has always been of immense support during tough times and their display of solidarity with the frontline COVID Warriors is equally remarkable. Shri Modi said, the country has waged a strong fight against the global pandemic and it has been possible all because of the courageous frontline warriors. Home Minister Amit Shah extended his compliments to the Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and to the three service chiefs for their decision to organize a spectacular display of solidarity. All three service Chiefs will today, lay wreath at the Police Memorial in New Delhi to honour the efforts of security personnel for their exceptional and heroic efforts. AIR Correspondent reports on the series of activities slated to take place today.
The C-130 carrier of the Indian Air Force flying at a very low altitude will cover the entire length of the country from Kashmir to Kanyakumari overlooking Dal Lake in Srinagar, Rajpath in Delhi, Bada Talab in Bhopal, Marine Drive in Mumbai, Vidhan Sabha in Bengaluru, Vivekanand Rock in Kanyakumari including many other places of significance.
