I would like to ask partners of the INDI alliance, including TMC and Mamata Banerjee, who are protesting with the Constitution every day and doing drama every day -

is it written in the Constitution that you can arbitrarily implement Sharia Law in any state?...Rahul Gandhi should answer this as TMC is a part of INDI Alliance..."

Nagaland ::: What's there to celebrate about ULB polls, outcome ?

What's there to celebrate about ULB polls, outcome ?

"Rooster also is infected with Lotus virus and the Globe is spinning"

New Delhi

There goes a very popular communist story.

Nikita Khrushchev was the First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1953 to 1964.

Once he was to denounce Joseph Stalin’s 'mistakes'.A voice was raised at the back of the hall, saying, “And where wereyou, Comrade Khrushchev?" Khrushchev looked for the man and scrutinized the faces before him, but found no one.Visibly angry he said, “Who spoke up?"

No one answered. “Who spoke up?" Khrushchev asked again. Still no one answered. Then Khrushchev exclaimed, “Comrade, I was where you are now."

Well, the Naga leaders could be here and there where Khrushchev was.

That's the power of Power Politics. Neiphiu Rio is back where he wasso natural ... so dominant. Headlines screamed - NDPP sweeps polls.

On the other hand, the BJP could win as many as 25 seats. Independent candidates claimed more than double 56 seats. Other parties together made 44 -- much lessthan Independents. And Rio-Chingwang Konyak led NDPP managed 152 seatsacross Nagaland. Who remembers what happened during Lok Sabha polls ?

In politics, both failure and success could be contagious.

Nagaland is at a crossroads -- face to face to a troubling convergence of extortion linked tounresolved Naga political issue and there are escalating debt burdens on many individuals. There are other human problems - corruption, misgovernance, joblessness andyoung children and business people planning to leave the state.Dimapur's loss is being linked to Khatkati's gain !

In short, there is a complex scenario.

'Nagaland Page'

The Lok Sabha mandate in Nagaland was used by people to show their anguish. Nagasare also forgetful. All bitterness ended quickly and in 25 wards -- the Hindutva was aforgotten word as the saffron party candidates came triumphant. At the same time, the NPF also held on its ground where it mattered since statehood.

This is a much needed face-saver for the second oldest regional outfit in India after DMK in far off Tamil Nadu--- which was also almost written off.

Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu missed out party presidentship after veteran regionalist Shurhozelie took retirement in October last year.

The Chakhesang Nagas have been traditionally pro-regional but during the heydays of Congress they have often sent a few Congress legislators from Phek town, Pfutsero and also Chizami.

"To all NPF party ticket participants, irrespective of the election results, I extend my deepest appreciation and congratulations. Your commitment and passion for serving ....Together, let us strive for a brighter and better future for Phek , Bhandari including other towns," Azo issueda statement.

The real smiling man on June 29th has been Chief Minister Rio. This win was necessary and will put him and his party and also the NDPP-BJP alliance on a forward march. Is reshuffle or a cabinet expansion still on cards?

Parties like LJP (Ram Vilas) and NCP and NPP could be waiting in the wings.

After unexpected and unprecedented success of Congress in recent Lok Sabha polls against NDPP-BJP nominee Chumben Murry, all sorts of interpretation, misinterpretation and commentaries were flooded. Hence there was an added interest for ULB polls in Nagaland.

For Rio, it's proof yet again that the taste of the cake is in its eating.  This is a case of gettingback the lost ground. His electoral supremacy reins.

Another version -- but a vital one - about the ULB polls is -- it will not have any politicalimpact. It came, it was fought and the game is over.

The Turkish Nobel laureate, Orhan Pamuk, once lamented: “I live in a country singularly devoid of books ....that views the nonreader as the norm and the reader as somehow defective".

In the Nagaland context; do we know the 'defectives' and 'normal' ones? Change the word from -- 'reader' to Leader ; -- and there may be an answer.Money is still the driving force and Boleros do make a difference.

One social activist summed up his version of a paradoxical story -- by his Nagamesestatement: "Development napabo NDPP lagibo ... Kohima Manu hi Malik Ase.... Supong sahabDelhi jaisey".

I thought of getting a good English translation from a Congressman -- and he surprisedme when he wrote back: "Hand is not moving. Rooster also is already infected with the Lotus virus and the Globe is spinning now but all have to die a slow death".

Pamuk says if you do not find good books to buy, write a few yourself. There is a message.

Indira Gandhi admitted her mistake, said sorry to Shankaracharya for abuse of power during Emergency

Interview with G V Anshuman Rao, ex chairman Andhra Pradesh electronic development corporation,  Govt of united Andhra Pradesh.

Blogger: Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi is being talked about in 2024. You have been following national politics at different stages and in different capacities. First as son of a Congress stalwart from Andhra Pradesh, G V Sudhaker Rao. And then as a corporate captain and newspaper columnist. What is your take on the episode especially in view of the 2024 mandate?

G V Anshuman Rao :

The last part of your question is the most operative. Election 2024 was a major milestone of our era. The BJP got a setback but Narendra Modi has returned to power for the record third time. So this is crucial. The Congress showed some improvement and so did other opposition parties. But as the saying goes -

....winner takes it all. That's reality Modi is back in power and hence theBJP will keep this debate about Emergency and Tana-shahi 'dictatorship' on. It's a fact Indira Gandhi tried to abuse power and behaved like Lady Hitler. We cannot wish this fact away.

#But it all happened 49 years back?

Anshuman Rao : This is again an important fact. What did you say .... 49 years. That is next year 2025 --we will have the Golden Jubilee year of Emergency.

So the debate is relevant. I am with those who want to debate about Democracy and Emergency. That does not mean; I am exposing Congress weakness. It's not a secret. The Congress and other opposition parties will make a mistake to run away from the debate itself.

Blogger : There is a story that Indira Gandhi herself tendered an apology to no less than the 68th Acharya of Kanchi Kamakot Peetham?

Anshuman Rao:

What story... this is not a story... It's a fact of history. There you are -- even seasoned politicians like Indira Gandhi admitted her mistake. But today, the Congress wants to run away from the debate. Why ? And the question of Indira Gandhi tendering apology to His Holiness Jagadguru.....this is also a fact of history.

When Indira Gandhi's troubles were multiple ... she was advised to seek Jagadguru Swami Chandrashekharanda Saraswati's blessing. Later we were told -- initially Jagad Guru refused to meet her and his reason was excesses committed during Emergency.

# And then she said sorry?

Anshuman Rao:

She not only said sorry. Jagadguru was very specific, he said you have to assure me that you will not repeat what you did in 1975... come what may. Then Indira Gandhi with folded hands sought his blessing and assured His Holiness and nothing like that will ever happen under her.

Jagadguru raised his right hand as a mark of blessing ...like Sants and Sanyasis do. It changed everything.  I need not tell you, Indira Gandhi was then a changed person. She turned religious and God loving and politically she bounced back to power.

# Yes, I agree to a large extent, what you are stating...even other leaders have in the past spoken on these lines. But I know you are also a Bhakt of Jagadguru... We know of giants like Dalai Lama and Late Nani Palkhivala who had vert high opinion of Shankaracharya?

Annshuman Rao: That's true.... The Tibetan Spiritual leader Dalai Lama called him the "only monk of this century". Legendary lawyer Palkhivala was also a wonderful columnist. Once he said, Jagadguru's greatest merit was to treat the entire human race as one family. Palkhivala was impressed by the fact that the Jagadguru was a visionary... ahead of his time and did not distinguish between Indian and non-Indianor between Hindus, Muslims, Parsis and Christians.

# And about his teachings .... the single big message you feel you should share today?

Anshuman Rao: Well, there are plenty of them. I owe a lot to the Guru and his blessings. But to share with you .... I often tell many others...the Holiness once said war and human conflicts can vanish onlyif spiritual understanding is developed between nations and between the rich and the poor. Only thena goodwill is produced. Well, this is something we lack today especially in view of conflicts we have at different levels including Israel, Palestine, Russia and UKraine.

# Coming back to power politics, any commentary from your end in a general sense?

Anshuman Rao: I have told you earlier about the great significance of this election 2024. It is also good, the BJP's numbers came down a bit. This is a blessing in disguise because now they will be able to take corrective steps.

Otherwise, the battle of 2029 could have been worse. In terms of individual leaders, I have stated somewhere that Home Minister Amit Shah will emerge a true big leader in months to come.

The 'chanakya' as he is called is an assert for PM Narendra Modiand this will become more and more explicit.

# Why this question on relevance of Hindutva?

Anshuman Rao: Essentially, Hindutva is a way of life and hence it has to be relevant always. Even Jagadguruand other stalwarts have said so in their own way. Swami Vivekananda also wanted youths of this nationto be physically and in character to be strong. The RSS is a great organisation in man-making. But Hindutvashould not be given or used as a communal platform. Then there is a problem.

We Indians are essentially democratic.

Hindutva is like that old stone building that will stand for centuries and not that airport roof. (smiles)

Did Indira say 'sorry' for Emergency ?? Namo does not change .... despite 'compulsion of coalition' ::: Modi is unlikely to soften towards Opposition parties

Of course, the BJP has sharpened attack against Congress and the 'first political family' on the Emergency.

"Is it in anticipation that the Congress-led Opposition is moving now into a transition phase, which could take it towards a more dominant position?

What is also clear is that despite heading a coalition government, requiring him to be conciliatory towards his partners, PM Modi is unlikely to soften towards Opposition parties," says an article in 'Indian Express'.

The article penned by Neerja Chowdhury says it was Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s measure in calling for a two-minute silence in the House, to honour those who had fought the Emergency, and saying that a Lok Sabha resolution condemned what happened in 1975, "rattled the Congress".

Rahul Gandhi, with his new found status of LoP, rushed to the Speaker himself layed the “political” speech by Birla.

Of course, India has come a long way in the half-century since the Emergency. Though weakened in the 2024 polls, the BJP still forms the pole of the polity, having replaced the Congress. "But the Congress is confident it is on the recovery path, as part of an Opposition front that as a whole emerged stronger in the Lok Sabha elections," runs the article.

Amid intense debate in parliament and also outside, there is a section which believes there is nothing wrong in debating and discussing Emergency.

"The Congress and other opposition parties will make a mistake to run away from the debate itself," analyst G V Anshuman Rao told the blogger.

Rao said in response to a question : "What story... this is not a story... It's a fact of history. There you are -- even seasoned politicians like Indira Gandhi admitted her mistake. But today, the Congress wants to run away from the debate. Why ? And the question of Indira Gandhi tendering apology to His Holiness Jagadguru .....this is also a fact of history.

When Indira Gandhi's troubles were multiple ... she was advised to seek Jagadguru Swami Chandrashekharanda Saraswati ji's blessing. Later we were told -- initially Jagadguru refused to meet her and his reason was excesses committed during the Emergency."

"Ultimately, she (Indira Gandhi) not only said sorry. Jagadguru was very specific, he said you have to assure me that you will not repeat what you did in 1975."

(see interview details in the next blog)

Anshuman Rao

There goes another version. "As a young RSS full-timer, Narendra Modi remained incognito for the entire Emergency phase, utilising it as an opportunity to work with leaders and organisations across the political spectrum, which exposed him to diverse ideologies and viewpoints," says 'Times of India'.

It has also been reported that in 1978, Narendra Modi authored his first book, ‘Sangharsh Ma Gujarat’, a memoir of his experiences as a leader in the underground movement against Emergency in Gujarat.

It is true if Narendra Modi is talking about the Emergency now to counter the Congress’s claims about “defending” the Constitution, the BJP’s message has been accentuated by both Speaker Om Birla in his speech in the Lok Sabha following his re-election, and President Droupadi Murmu, in her customary address to the joint session at the start of a new Parliament.

Meanwhile, the drama and row over 'Hitler' cult of politics has only intensified as Narendra Modi's regime has often been likened to the Nazi Party by Modi's detractors.

This was largely driven by their perceived anti-Muslim and anti-Christian bias, and their support for calls to ban the consumption of beef — cows are highly revered animals in Hinduism.

Allegedly there has been 'refusal' to crack down on vigilante Hindu squads and mobs who attacked people for engaging in the cow-slaughter trade.

Modi is determined to fight the Congress. He is sure Emergency narratives will weaken Congress attack against his government vis-a-vis abuse of power and subverting the Constitution. For him, it is just an allegation but Indira Gandhi really did so !!

The BJP leaders instead slam the Congress and questioned its democratic credentials.

"On this day back in 1975, democracy was murdered by the Congress merely to meet its political agenda so it could continue in power," Home Minister Modi's trusted colleague Amit Shah has said in the past. This year on June 25, Shah tweeted directing his ire against Rahul and Rajiv Gandhi.

“The yuvraj of the Congress party (Rahul Gandhi) has forgotten that his grandmother imposed the Emergency and his father, Mr Rajiv Gandhi, on July 23, 1985, said in the Lok Sabha, taking much pride in this horrific episode, “There is nothing wrong with an Emergency”.

Responding to Madhu Dandavate, Rajiv Gandhi had said in Lok Sabha, 1985: “Not only have the hon. Members not paid attention to my press conference, they have not been listening to what I have been saying now. I have just said barely two minutes age that it is highly unlikely that one set of circumstances will ever repeat themselves in their totality.

In my press conference I said the same thing, I said that one set of circumstances will not repeat themselves and after…".

Rajiv had referred to a statement he had made earlier at a press conference, and said: “I was asked a very specific question. One, whether I thought the Emergency when it was proclaimed in 1975 it was Correct? I said ‘yes’.

I think it is correct and I stand by that statement”, Late Rajiv had said.

30th June, 2024 .

"My dear countrymen, Namaskar. The day all of us had been waiting for since February has finally arrived. Today I have come amidst you, my family members, once again through ‘Mann Ki Baat’. There is a very lovely saying – ‘Iti Vida Punarmilanaaya’, its connotation too, is equally lovely, I take leave of you, to meet again.

With this very feeling, I had told you in February that I would meet you again after the election results. And today, with ‘Mann Ki Baat’, I am again present amongst you. Friends, since February until now, whenever the last Sunday of the month would come, I would miss this dialogue with you a lot. But I was also very glad to see that in all these months, you sent me lakhs of messages.

The 'Mann Ki Baat' radio program may have been paused for a few months, but the spirit of 'Mann Ki Baat' in the country and society, touching upon the good work done every day, work done with selfless spirit, work having a positive impact on the society – carried on relentlessly.

Amidst the news of the elections, you certainly would have noticed such news that touched the heart.

Friends, today I also thank the countrymen for having reiterated their unwavering faith in our Constitution and the democratic systems of the country. The 2024 elections were the biggest elections in the world. An election as big as this, in which 65 crore people cast their votes, has never taken place in any other country in the world.

For this, I congratulate the Election Commission and everyone involved in the voting process.

My dear countrymen, today, the 30th of June is a very important day. Our tribal brothers and sisters celebrate this day as 'Hool Diwas'.

This day is associated with the indomitable courage of Veer Sidhu-Kanhu, who strongly opposed the atrocities of the foreign rulers. Veer Sidhu-Kanhu united thousands of Santhal compatriots and fought the British with all their might. And do you know when this took place?

This happened in 1855, that is, it happened two years before India's first war of independence in 1857. Then, in Santhal Pargana of Jharkhand, our tribal brothers and sisters took up arms against the foreign rulers.

The British had committed many atrocities on our Santhal brothers and sisters, and had also imposed many types of restrictions on them. Veer Sidhu and Kanhu attained martyrdom while displaying amazing bravery in this struggle. The supreme sacrifice of these immortal sons of the land of Jharkhand inspires the countrymen even today. Let us listen to an excerpt from a song dedicated to them in Santhali language –

My dear friends, if I ask you what the most precious relationship in the world is, you will certainly say - “Maa”, Mother. In the lives of all of us, the Mother holds the highest stature. A mother nurtures her child even after undergoing all kinds of hardships. Every mother showers limitless affection upon her child. This love of the mother who has given birth is like a debt on all of us, which no one can repay. I was thinking... we can’t give anything to our mother, but, can we do something else?

Through this thought, a special campaign has been launched on World Environment Day this year. The name of this campaign is – ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’. I have also planted a tree in the name of my mother. I have appealed to all the countrymen; people of all the countries of the world to plant a tree along with their mothers, or in their name.

And I am immensely happy to see that the campaign to plant trees in memory of the mother or in her honor is progressing rapidly. On social media, People are sharing pictures of planting trees with their mothers or with their photographs. Everyone is planting trees for one’s mother - whether one is rich or poor, whether one is a working woman or a homemaker. This campaign has provided all of us with an equal opportunity to express affection towards mothers. They are inspiring others by sharing their pictures with #Plant4Mother and #Ek_Ped_Maa_Ke_Naam.

Friends, this campaign shall benefit us in another way. The Earth also takes care of us like a mother. Mother Earth is the very basis of the lives of all of us... so it is our duty to take care of Mother Earth as well. The campaign to plant trees in the name of mother will not only honor our mother, but will also protect Mother Earth. During the last decade, through collective efforts, there has been an unprecedented expansion of forest area in India. During the Amrit Mahotsav, more than 60 thousand Amrit Sarovars have also been created across the country. Now we have to lend speed to the campaign of planting trees in the name of mother.

My dear countrymen, monsoon is spreading its hues rapidly in different parts of the country. And during this rainy season, the thing that has started being searched for in every home is the 'umbrella'. Today in 'Mann Ki Baat', I want to tell you about a special kind of umbrella. These umbrellas are made in our Kerala.

In a way, umbrellas have a special significance in the culture of Kerala. Umbrellas are an important part of many traditions and rituals there. But the umbrella I am talking about is 'Karthumbhi Umbrella' and it is crafted in Attappady, Kerala. These colourful umbrellas are strikingly splendid. And the special fact is that these umbrellas are made by our tribal sisters of Kerala. Today the demand for these umbrellas is rising across the country.

They are also being sold online.

These umbrellas are made under the supervision of 'Vattalakki Cooperative Farming Society'. This society is led by our woman power. Under the leadership of women, the tribal community of Attappady has displayed a wonderful example of entrepreneurship.

This society has also established a bamboo-handicraft unit. These people are now also preparing to open a retail outlet and a traditional cafe. Their aim is not only to sell their umbrellas and other products, but they are also introducing their tradition, their culture to the world.

Today Karthumbi umbrellas have completed their journey from a small village in Kerala to multinational companies. What could be a better example than this of being vocal for local?

My dear countrymen, by this time next month, the Paris Olympics would have begun. I am sure that all of you would also be waiting to cheer for the Indian sportspersons in these Olympic Games. I wish the Indian team the very best for the Olympic Games. The memories of the Tokyo Olympics are still fresh in our minds.

The performance of our players in Tokyo had won the heart of every Indian. Right after the Tokyo Olympics, our athletes were whole-heartedly engaged in the preparations for the Paris Olympics. If we take all the players together, then all of them have participated in nearly nine hundred international competitions. This is a very big number.

Friends, in the Paris Olympics, you will get to witness certain things for the first time. In shooting, the talent of our players is coming to the fore. Both men’s and women’s teams have qualified in table tennis. Our shooter daughters are also part of the Indian shotgun team. This time, members of our team will compete in wrestling and horse riding in those categories as well, in which they had never participated before.

From this, you can make out that this time we will see a different level of excitement in sports. You might remember... a few months ago, we displayed our best performance in the World Para Athletics Championship. Our players have also won glorious laurels in chess and badminton. Now the whole country is hoping that our players perform well in the Olympics as well... win medals in these games and also win the hearts of the countrymen. In the coming days, I will also get an opportunity to meet the Indian team. I will encourage them on your behalf. And yes, this time our hashtag is #Cheer4Bharat.

Through this hashtag, we have to cheer our players... keep encouraging them. So keep up the momentum... this momentum of yours will help in showing the magic of India to the world.

My dear countrymen, I am playing a small audio clip for all of you.

#Audio Clip#

You must have also been surprised to hear this radio program, right? So come, let me tell you the whole story behind it. Actually, this is a clip of a broadcast of Kuwait Radio. Now you might think that since we are talking about Kuwait, how did Hindi get there? Actually, the Kuwait government has started a special program on its National Radio. And that too in Hindi. It is broadcast every Sunday for half an hour on Kuwait Radio. It includes myriad shades of Indian culture. Our films and discussions related to the art world are very popular among the Indian community there. I have even been told that the local people of Kuwait are also taking a lot of interest in it. I thank the government of Kuwait and the people there from the core of my heart for taking this wonderful initiative.

Friends, which Indian will not be happy with the way our culture is earning glory all over the world today! For example, in Turkmenistan, the 300th birth anniversary of its national poet was celebrated in May this year. On this occasion, the President of Turkmenistan unveiled the statues of 24 famous poets of the world. One of these statues is also that of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

This is an honour for Gurudev; an honour for India. Similarly, in the month of June, two Caribbean countries Suriname and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines celebrated their Indian heritage with full zeal and enthusiasm. The Indian community in Suriname celebrates 5 June every year as Indian Arrival Day and Pravasi Din. Bhojpuri is also widely spoken here, along with Hindi. The number of our brothers and sisters of Indian origin living in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is also around six thousand. All of them are very proud of their heritage. The way they celebrated Indian Heritage Day on the 1st of June with great jubilation reflects this feeling. Every Indian feels proud when such a spread of Indian heritage and culture is seen all over the world.

Friends, this month the whole world celebrated the 10th Yoga Day with great enthusiasm and zeal. I also participated in the yoga program organized in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. In Kashmir, along with the youth, sisters and daughters also participated enthusiastically on Yoga Day. As the observance of Yoga Day is progressing, even new records are being made. Yoga Day has attained many great achievements all over the world. For the first time in Saudi Arabia, a woman, Al Hanouf Saad ji, led the common yoga protocol.

This is the first time a Saudi woman has instructed a main yoga session. This time in Egypt, a photo competition was organized on Yoga Day. The pictures of lakhs of people performing yoga on the banks of the Nile River, on the beaches of the Red Sea and in front of the pyramids became very popular. Myanmar's Maravijaya Pagoda Complex, famous for its Marble Buddha Statue, is world famous. Here too, a splendid Yoga Session was organized on the 21st of June. A special camp was organized for Divyang children in Bahrain.

A memorable Yoga Session was also held at Galle Fort, famous for its UNESCO heritage site in Sri Lanka. People also did Yoga at the Observation Deck in New York, USA. The President of Marshall Islands also participated in the Yoga Day program organized there on a large scale for the first time.

A grand Yoga Day program was also organized in Thimpu, Bhutan, in which my friend Prime Minister Tobgay also participated. That is, we all saw panoramic views of people doing Yoga in every corner of the world. I express my heartfelt gratitude to all the friends who participated on Yoga Day.

And then there is this long standing request of mine. We do not have to make Yoga just a one-day practice. You should do Yoga regularly. You will certainly feel positive changes in your life by doing this. Friends, there are so many products of India which are in great demand all over the world and when we see a local product of India going global, it is natural to feel proud. One such product is Araku coffee. Araku coffee is produced in large quantities in Alluri Sita Rama Raju district of Andhra Pradesh. It is known for its rich flavour and aroma. Around 1.5 lakh tribal families are associated with the cultivation of Araku coffee. Girijan cooperative has played a very important role in taking Araku coffee to new heights. It brought together the farmer brothers and sisters here and encouraged them to cultivate Araku coffee.

This has also enhanced the income of these farmers a lot. The Konda Dora tribal community has also benefited a lot from this. Along with income, they are also getting a life of dignity. I remember once I got a chance to taste this coffee in Visakhapatnam with the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu Garu. And it’s taste…! This coffee is amazing! Araku coffee has received many global awards. The coffee was also a hit at the G-20 summit held in Delhi. Whenever you get a chance, you must enjoy Araku coffee.

Friends, the people of Jammu and Kashmir are also not lagging behind in making local products global. What Jammu and Kashmir has achieved last month is an example for people across the country. The first consignment of snow peas was sent to London from Pulwama here. Some people got the idea... why not bring the exotic vegetables grown in Kashmir onto the world map! And lo and behold… Abdul Rashid Mir of Chakura village was the first to come forward for this. He started growing snow peas by integrating the land of other farmers of the village and within no time, snow peas started reaching London from Kashmir. This success has opened new doors for the prosperity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. There is no dearth of such unique products in our country. You must share such products with #myproductsmypride. I will also touch upon this topic in the upcoming 'Mann Ki Baat'.

Mam Priya: Deshvasin:

Adya Aham Kinchhit Charcha Sanskrit Bhashayaam Aarabhe.

You must be thinking why I am suddenly speaking in Sanskrit in 'Mann Ki Baat'? The reason for this is a special occasion related to Sanskrit today! Today, on the 30th of June, the Sanskrit Bulletin of Akashvani is completing 50 years of its broadcast. For 50 years, this bulletin has kept so many people connected to Sanskrit. I congratulate the All India Radio family.

Friends, Sanskrit has played a big role in the progress of ancient Indian knowledge and science. The demand of today's times is that we should respect Sanskrit and also connect it with our daily life. Nowadays, many people are making such an effort in Bengaluru. There is a park in Bengaluru - Cubbon Park!

In this park, the people here have started a new tradition. Here, once a week, every Sunday, children, youth and elders talk to each other in Sanskrit. Not only this, many debate sessions are also organised in Sanskrit. The name of this initiative is Sanskrit Weekend! It has been started by Samashti Gubbi ji through a website. This initiative which started a few days ago has become very popular among the people of Bengaluru.

If we all join such efforts, we will get to learn a lot from such an ancient and scientific language of the world.

My dear countrymen, it was great to connect with you in this episode of Mann ki Baat. Now this series will continue once again as earlier. The holy Rath Yatra is going to start after a week from now. It’s my solemn wish that the blessings of Mahaprabhu Jagannath always remain on all the countrymen. The Amarnath Yatra has also commenced, and in the next few days, the Pandharpur Wari is also about to start.

I wish all the devotees participating in these Yatras all the best. Just ahead is also the festival of the Kutchi New Year – Ashadhi Beej. Many best wishes to all of you for all these festivals too. I am of the firm belief that you will keep sharing such efforts of public participation related to positivity with me. I am waiting to connect with you again next month. Till then please take care of yourself and your family as well. Thank you very much. Namaskar.

'Biden you are fired' .... gains momentum :::::: American media heavyweights tell Prez -- it’s time to quit :::: Could Kamala be a better nominee ??

Kamala Harris, the daughter of Jamaican and Indian immigrants, is the highest-ranking female elected official in US history and the first Black and first Asian American to serve as vice president.

American media heavyweights tell president: it’s time to quit

Pressure mounts as the New York Times and some of Biden’s strongest backers join the call

Amid a howling chorus of derision over Joe Biden’s substandard debate performance against Donald Trump, one voice seemed to resonate more powerfully than others.

At 6.15pm on Friday – roughly 19 hours after the two presidential candidates left the stage in Atlanta the previous evening – the verdict of the New York Times’s editorial board dropped online to the newspaper’s subscribers.

The judgment was devastating.

The US president, the board forcefully argued, had presented such an alarming spectacle of aged frailty that the best thing he could now do for the country he had served for more than half a century was to withdraw from the race and allow his Democratic party to choose another candidate.

The newspaper long venerated as “the old Grey Lady” of American journalism pointed out that Biden had presented himself as the figure best positioned to defeat the threat to democracy represented by Trump – and acknowledged that he had successfully done so in 2020. -- 'The Guardian', London

“But the greatest public service Mr Biden can now perform is to announce that he will not continue to run for re-election,” it intoned.

“As it stands, the president is engaged in a reckless gamble. There are Democratic leaders better equipped to present clear, compelling and energetic alternatives to a second Trump presidency … It’s too big a bet to simply hope Americans will overlook or discount Mr Biden’s age and infirmity that they see with their own eyes.”

The judgment evoked memories of February 1968, when Walter Cronkite, the magisterial CBS anchor, used his television platform to openly question the US military commitment in Vietnam after the Vietcong launched an offensive that led to guerrillas storming the US embassy compound in Saigon.

Watching, President Lyndon Johnson – another Democratic president, to whom Biden is sometimes compared – reportedly said: “If I’ve lost Cronkite, I’ve lost Middle America.”

Just over a month later, Johnson withdrew from that year’s presidential election, announcing he would not seek a second term.

Times have changed since 1968; media has become more fragmented, with newspapers and, arguably, television less influential. Biden’s response to the editorial – if he has even seen it – is unknown.

And a vital question ... at this juncture ??

"Could Kamala Harris be a winner for the Democrats if Biden steps aside?"

"Biden has given no indication that he intends to exit the race, and his campaign has flatly dismissed the suggestion. But that has done little to silence critics who are openly questioning whether Biden is the right person to take on Donald Trump, a figure the president – and his party – view as a grave threat to American democracy.

"In the unlikely scenario Biden decides not to run, the most obvious choice to replace him would be his 59-year-old vice president and running mate, Kamala Harris. But it would not be automatic – and other candidates would likely challenge Harris, who has suffered her own low approval ratings, for the nomination." --- says another piece in 'The Guardian'

Already some Democrats are looking past the vice-president at other possible contenders – Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer, Illinois governor JB Pritzker, California governor Gavin Newsom and Maryland governor Wes Moore.

Jill Biden joins Joe Biden on stage at the end of the first presidential debate of the 2024 elections.

It’s a sign that Democrats have yet to fully embrace Harris as Biden’s heir apparent.

“To even discuss Biden stepping down while COMPLETELY IGNORING THE VP … is a serious look into how we see the importance, capacity and seriousness of women of color,” writer Tanzina Vega, said on X.

Despite a rocky start to her tenure, Harris has eased into the role, especially since becoming the administration’s leading voice on abortion rights. On Monday, Harris marked two years since the second anniversary of the US supreme court decision that overturned Roe v Wade with a fiery warning that Trump would not hesitate to further restrict women’s reproductive rights in a second-term.

Nodding to her background as a prosecutor, the vice president declared: “In the case of the stealing of reproductive freedom from the women of America, Donald Trump is guilty.”

Harris’s clear defense of abortion rights, by far Democrats’ strongest issue, stands in stark contrast to Biden. During Thursday’s debate, Biden fumbled an attack on Trump over Republican bans on the procedure, pivoting bizarrely to immigration and raising the case of a young woman murdered in Georgia.

Getting back the lost ground .... NDPP sweeps historic civic polls in Nagaland, wins all 3 municipal councils, most town councils

Altogether 523 candidates from 11 political parties were in the fray. NDPP fielded the highest number of candidates at 178, followed by BJP at 44, Congress at 37, NPP at 22, NPF at 21 and NCP at 15. JD contested nine seats, RPI and LJP seven each, and Rising Peoples' Party one. Also, there were 182 Independent candidates.

NDPP emerged as the dominant force, securing a total of 152 seats across various Municipal and Town Councils.

The BJP also performed notably, winning 25 seats.

Independent candidates made a significant impact, claiming 56 seats. Other political parties collectively secured 44 seats.

After Lok Sabha poll debacle : A great occasion to smile !!

After unexpected and unprecedented success of Congress in recent Lok Sabha polls against NDPP-BJP nominee, all sorts of interpretation, misinterpretation and commentaries were flooded and hence there was an added interest for ULB polls in Nagaland.

The ruling NDPP, a key BJP ally led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, swept the civic body polls in Nagaland on Saturday, winning all three municipal councils and most of the town councils, officials said.

This win was necessary... and will put the NDPP-BJP and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on forward march.

The polling for the 24 urban local bodies three municipal councils and 21 town councils spread across 10 districts was held on Wednesday through ballot papers. Nearly 82 per cent of the over 2.23 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the elections, they said.

NDPP won all three municipal councils Kohima, Mokokchung and Dimapur, they added.

Of the 21 town councils, the NDPP secured a majority in most. It could not win Wokha, Phek and Tuli, while it did not field candidates in Bhandari and Niuland town councils.

In the Wokha Town Council, NDPP won seven out of 15 seats, while NCP bagged five and BJP got three seats.

The Naga Peoples' Front , which has only two seats in the assembly Bhandari and Phek, got a majority in both town councils. In Bhandari Town Council in Wokha district, NPF won six of the nine wards, while the BJP and JDU got one each, and the remaining one was won by an Independent candidate.

The NDPP won majority in three municipal councils—Kohima(14/19), Mokokchung (15/18), and Dimapur(13/23).

Rio-Chingwang Konyak led NDPP could not win majority in Wokha, Bhandari, and Phek, where other parties like NCP and NPF gained ground.

T20 World Cup: 'Vishwa Guru Bharat' #India #Bharat trounce #SouthAfrica in a thriller

"Rahul Dravid’s incredible coaching journey has shaped the success of Indian cricket. His unwavering dedication, strategic insights and nurturing the right talent have transformed the team.

India is grateful to him for his contributions and for inspiring generations. We are happy to see him lift the World Cup. Happy to have congratulated him." - PM Modi

Brief Scores: India 176/7 (Virat Kohli 76, Axar Patel 47; Keshav Maharaj 2-23, Anrich Nortje 2-26) beat South Africa 169/8

‘Vishwa Guru Bharat’ trounce South Africa in nail-biting final, end trophy drought

"CHAMPIONS!

Our team brings the T20 World Cup home in STYLE!

We are proud of the Indian Cricket Team.

This match was HISTORIC. 🇮🇳 🏏 🏆" --- PM Narendra Modi tweeted.

Hardik Pandya’s 3-20 and Jasprit Bumrah’s 2-18 helped an unbeaten India clinch their second title in the shortest format with a seven-run win at the Kensington Oval on Saturday.

Talismanic batter Virat Kohli stepped up to end his lean run with a 59-ball 76 to help India post a competitive 176/7. In reply, South Africa were very much in sight to chase down the total. But Hardik taking out Heinrich Klaasen propelled India to come back into the match and emerge victorious to end a long 11-year global trophy drought as they restricted South Africa to 169/8.

Rohit Sharma-led India ended its 17-year trophy drought with a 7-run win over South Africa in T20 World Cup.

Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets each while Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya picked one wicket apiece.

Earlier, Virat Kohli anchored with a gritty 76 off 59 as India posted a total of 176 for 7 in 20 overs, which is the highest total by any team in the final of a men's T20 World Cup.

Nagaland in Focus::::: Hokishe survived two No-Trust motions, first CM Shilu Ao was voted out in 1966

Hokishe survived two No-Trust motions, first CM Shilu Ao was voted out in 1966

'Nagaland Page' link

New Delhi

The third assembly was witness to 'defections' and gross political instability. The first Vizol ministry took over reins on Feb 24, 1974. K V Keditsu was elected Speaker of the House.

Illustrious Hokishe with Rajiv Gandhi

But owing to defections, the Vizol's UDF ministry had to step aside on March 10, 1975 and an NNO ministry led by J B Jasokie (reportedly an intimate friend of Hokishe) took charge the same day.

Rokonicha, a known name in regional politics, from Medziphema (Ghaspani area) was elected Deputy Speaker on March 17, 1975. But he resigned the next day.

S C Jamir : Blogger and two other 'Chuba' journos - 1998

In fact, the period between March 18 and 20th (1975) saw a series of defection and shifting of political loyalties. That was the era in Delhi and elsewhere - intellectuals and media persons joked about the 'political headhunting' in Nagaland -- albeit a reference tothe tradition of head hunting !!Mark the date... in June 1975 -- Indira Gandhi imposed Emergency.

J B Jasokie, the senior Angami leader, from Kohima town was perhaps the only Chief Minister who complained in the assembly that seven of his MLAs and three of his ministers were 'detained' by unscrupulous elements. Thus they could not come to the House.

The first Chief Minister P Shilu Ao was voted out on Aug 11, 1966

when the no confidence motion against the government was carried through.

T N Angami was Speaker and he was later elected as Shilu Ao's successor.

The students of politics should note that in the general election to the second Nagaland legislative assembly held in February 1969, only 40 members were elected.

The Tuensang Regional Council selected 12 members to represent Tuensang district.

On Feb 16, 1969, a 16-member ministry headed by Hokishe Sema had assumed office.

K V Keditsu was the pro-tem Speaker and 51 members took oath on March 6, 1969.

Notably, K Shikhu, the Speaker of the first legislative assembly, was unanimously re-elected Speaker of the second Nagaland legislative assembly.

Chishi - 2022 'explaining layers of corruption' peeling an onion

In the subsequent period on March 10, 1969, K V Keditsu was elected Deputy Speaker.

In fact, during the stint of the second Nagaland assembly, no confidence motion against

Hokishe Sema ministry was taken up twice -- Nov 28, 1972 and later Sept 8, 1973.

Much to the credit of Hokishe's handling of politics - on both the occasions, the Chief

Minister survived as the two no-trust motions were rejected.

Incidentally, in the 1990s - the Phek district produced two Speakers Z Lohe and Thenucho.

From the Pfutsuro assembly constituency in Phek district, there were two

stalwarts in their own rights. Kewephape Therie and Thenucho. Thenucho became headline hunter when his brother-in-law Vamuzo became Nagaland's only 'non-MLA' Chief Minister and he became the Speaker.

Needless to add, S C Jamir later regretted the move as he had proposed "the non-MLA Vamuzo" as the Chief Minister and along with that handed over the powerful chair of Speakership to Thenucho. This was a case of family rule, Vamuzo's critics would easily recall.

But it is also true Jamir kins were always part of the Congress limelight in the corridors of power.

Thenucho holds a distinct record of disqualifying as many as 15

legislators. However, in 1993 assembly polls, he was humbled by Therie.

Thenucho also survived a major ambush and attempt on his life when he was

traveling to Mon to address Independence Day speech. His staff from the Assembly secretariat and a few security personnel lost their lives.

Thenucho also served as a key minister under Neiphiu Rio and it was to the good luckof Azo Nienu that Rio developed differences with both Therie and Thenucho.

However, Azo is now an NPF die-hard regionalist and K G Kenye has made a bigcomeback.

From the Tuensang district, Chenlom Phom had become Deputy Speaker in 1985 and

then Speaker in 1987. In 1993-94, when Neiba Ndang was the Speaker and Chenlom in the opposition

bench; he had requested the chair to give him additional time in the name of a "former Speaker".

"Eneka na koribi, former Speaker naam teh time dibi" - he had said, throwing the entire House into peals of laughter.

E T Ezung was the Nagaland assembly Speaker in the mid-eighties. In 1990 as Power Minister underJamir, he had come under attack from the then Leader of the Opposition K L Chishi.

Ezung was up on his feet and retorted sharply, "Speaker Sir, I can assure you one thing;I will certainly take action against the Chief Engineer". Several members and those in the gallery could guess the catch. The Chief Engineer, Power was then a kin of K L Chishi.

This was the period when T N Ngullie was the Speaker. Later when the Jamir Ministry was reduced to a minority. Ngullie as the Speaker had disqualified 10 members including Neiphiu Rio.

However, after Thenucho became Speaker --- all the 10 disqualified MLAs were given back their membership. But the irony is that after a few months, Thenucho disqualified 15 legislators.

In the 1960s and 1970s -- most Naga leaders had 'Naga political movement'

background. Either they were part of the negotiating team to ensure peace

in 1960 and enlist statehood or there was someone like Vamuzo - a former Naga army Brigadier - who had surrendered.

There were also flamboyant and vocal legislators like Huska Sumi. Bangjak

Phom had his unique Nagamese to entertain the House.

Chishi had the lung power and debating skills that no one could match. On one occasion as he was speakingabout 'alleged corruption' against the Jamir ministry and there was thunder lightning, he quipped:  "Honourable Speaker Sir even Heaven agrees there is corruption in Nagaland".

When T N Ngullie was conducting the House proceedings and the Congress Govt in Goa was toppled after the Speaker there joined the opposition camp; Chishi told T N Ngullie : "Speaker Sir,Goa Speaker has joined the opposition and he will be Chief Minister tomorrow. You are still sitting there".

No story of the Nagaland assembly can be complete without reference to two political rivals and 'friends'-- S C Jamir and Vamuzo. Jamir would not mind saying, "I don't know why this dull fellow is sitting here" and Vamuzo would counter - "You are a habitual liar". And believe it - within minutes they both would laugh at each other.

NPF to form the Committee with Independent. This is a much needed face saver for the second oldest regional outfit in India after DMK in far off --- which was also almost written off.

Azo missed out party presidentship after veteran regionalist Shurhozelie took retirement in October last year.

The Chakhesang Nagas have been traditionally pro-regional but during heydays of Congress have often sent a few Congress legislators from Phek town, Pfutsero and also Chizami.

In another politically sensitive Chazouba in Phek distroct Independents won 5 and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio's NDPP - 4.

In all probability, IND likely to form ULB Committee.

Hstory, Power Politics or Politics of Power ... Distortion :::: And the impact is Visible :::: Dr Ambedkar ... went away from real politics at the peak of career - Was it a blessing for him?

Impact of distortion or negativity can be hidden for a while. But the impact will be surely visible one day.  Dr B R Ambedkar ... went away ...
