“Public trust in US President's ability to meet duties of office has dropped" ::::: House Democrats call for commission led by Vance to oust Trump

“Public trust in Donald Trump’s ability to meet the duties of his office has dropped to unprecedented lows as he threatens to destroy entire civilizations, unleashes chaos in the Middle East while violating congressional war powers, aggressively insults the Pope of the Catholic Church and sends out artistic renderings online likening himself to Jesus Christ,” Democrat Jamie Raskin said in a statement.  

However, many feel .... Republicans will not do anything like that till November mid-term elections in the US. 

The measure by the top Democrat on the House judiciary committee, follows a series of statements from Donald Trump, including his recent warning that Iran’s “whole civilization will die” if it did not capitulate to his demands, and a social media post that depicted him as Jesus Christ.  

“We are at a dangerous precipice, and it is now a matter of national security for Congress to fulfill its responsibilities under the 25th Amendment to protect the American people from an increasingly volatile and unstable situation.”

The constitution’s 25th amendment sets out how a vice-president can take over from a president who dies or resigns. 

It also outlines the process by which the vice-president and a majority of the cabinet can remove the president from office, if they determine the president is “unable to discharge the powers and duties” of the office.  

Joe Biden faced similar calls in 2024, in the wake of his disastrous debate performance against Trump that intensified concerns about his age and led him to drop out of the presidential race. 

Several House Republicans filed resolutions calling for Kamala Harris, then the vice-president, to convene the cabinet to remove Biden from office, but none were ever voted on.

Trump defeated Harris in that year’s presidential election. 

In 2026, now Fifty other Democratic House lawmakers have co-sponsored the bill. 

It faces long odds in the Republican-controlled chamber, where some members have shown a willingness to oppose the president’s policies but none have expressed serious concerns about his fitness for office. 

The global criticism of Trump has increased manifold.  Of course, Donald Trump does not represent entire America full scale.

 For the moment, some say -- he has managed to revive the ‘ugly American’ in the eyes of the world and inadvertently exposed America’s ugly, brutish underbelly.
