Globally significant .... Modi-Trump first tele talk post Islamabad Talks fiasco :::: The call ended with Trump telling Namo - "I just want you to know we all love you"

Some big-ticket deals, including on energy, are expected between India and the US sooner than later.

Analysts in general attack Donal Trump. One refrain is the US President has practically achieved the astonishing feat of making his war on Iran a domestic issue for too many countries.

Columnist Tavleen Singh wrote this Sunday for 'The Indian Express':

"We like building temples to political leaders we revere, and I remember fearing then that there were probably the foundations of a Trump temple being laid already in some Indian city or town."

Sharing details of the call, PM Narendra Modi took to X and said,

“Received a call from my friend President Donald Trump.

We reviewed the substantial progress achieved in our bilateral cooperation in various sectors. We are committed to further strengthening our Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership in all areas.”

The issue of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in West Asia also came up during their 40-minute phone conversation.

A 40-minute call between Modi and Trump signals continued high-level engagement, but it remains to be seen what key issues were discussed and how will it shape the next phase of India-US relations.

“We also discussed the situation in West Asia and stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure,” he said.

The call from Washington came at a time of heightened geopolitical activity, with both sides closely watching developments in the Middle East.

Meanwhile US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, said India-US relations are on a strong footing.

He also indicated that economic engagement could deepen further, saying, “Some big-ticket deals, including on energy, are expected between India and the US in the next few days and weeks.”

The call ended with Trump telling PM, "I just want you to know we all love you", the US ambassador said.

Uncertainty continues over the fragile ceasefire, with ongoing buzz around a possible second round of talks between the United States and Iran.

Narendra Modi and Trump had previously spoken on February 2 to review progress on a bilateral trade deal, and again on March 24, when they discussed the evolving regional situation.

While details of Tuesday’s conversation were not immediately disclosed, the nearly 40-minute duration suggests substantive discussions between the two leaders.

It was the third phone call between the two leaders this year and the first after the recent peace talks between Iran and the US.

They spoke on February 2 to announce progress in a trade deal, and on March 24 to discuss the situation in West Asia.

The call ended with Trump telling PM, "I just want you to know we all love you", the US ambassador said. The war is currently in a stalemate after talks held in Pakistan capital Islamabad produced no result last weekend. Both sides are since sticking to their guns as a precarious truce, set for until April 22, holds for now.

Indian leadership and the foreign policy engine room — under Narendra Modi — did well to stay away from the illusory peace theatre between Americans and Iranians.

More so at a time when a wholly unpredictable character occupies the White House.

The way to counter a war-loving gimmick star like Trump is not to attempt something silly, as Pak army chief Munir’s team was forced into. The Persian DNA has made the battlefield murkier than it was before February 28.
