"GoI ready to sign peace pact even today...." :::: Amit Shah asks Rio-regime to 'convince' NSCN (IM) to sign pact

At the crucial meeting, the Naga delegation reportedly maintained --- "we cannot face election and people of Nagaland without solution". This plea was countered by the centre - "We did not delay...when did we delay? The GoI is ready to sign peace pact even today."

The Core Committee was told "stubbornness" of an individual or two should be given up and discouraged. "What cannot be given, cannot be given today, tomorrow or day after", they were told in reference to Flag and Constitution.

The Naga leaders have been advised to meet NSCN-IM leaders at the earliest and it was also underlined that everyone should be 'pragmatic'.

"We have a deadline of our own", says Centre

New Delhi

"As early as possible" is the catchphrase in the given situation vis-a-vis Naga
peace talks and the final stage for the onward journey for a Solution.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday directed the NDPP-BJP-NPF and so-called 'opposition-less' government to convince NSCN-IM to ink the final solution to the protracted Naga political issue.

Shah gave his directions at the meeting attended by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and BJP floor leader and deputy CM Y Patton among others.

However, real climax remains about the 'deadline' or whether the Solution pact will have to be inked by stakeholders before the fast approaching elections.

The delegation included former CM and UDA chairman T R Zeliang, its co-chairman and NPF leader

Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu, another NPF legislator Khriehu Liezietsu and other ministers G Kaito Aye, S Pangnyu Phom,

Neiba Kronu and Tongpang Ozukum, advisors Khehovi Yeptho and Phukhayi.

The meeting was also attended by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and other senior officials.

Chief Minister Rio tweeted about the deliberations and wrote: "....Once again, we urged the GoI to expedite the

protracted negotiations on the issue and bring about an early and honourable solution".

The media statement made by Rio's Minister, Neiba Kronu states that the centre

has 'asked' the Nagaland government to convince NSCN-IM.

"We have a deadline of our own....In the national interest, the media need not know more," the source said.

The centre has put the peace parleys on the fast track once again after the stalled talks with the NSCN-IM

(over the issues of Flag and Constitution) were revived last month from Shillong.

Last week the Naga delegation led by Chief Minister Rio met new peace emissary A K Mishra in Delhi.

The Core Committee's meeting earlier slated for Friday with Amit Shah was postponed to Monday.

As reported by 'Nagaland Page' on Sept 9 issue, a few set of Formulation Papers has been given from the centre

to the NSCN-IM with a 'set of old and new offers'.

Obviously, the focus is now on 'convincing' the NSCN-IM to ink the final peace pact while at the same time, the

NNPG for its part is already keen to sign an agreement and herald a new era of lasting peace and development for

Nagas.

The Nagaland ministers including a few members of the Core Committee would be soon holding a "closed door" meeting with the NSCN-IM delegation "as early as possible".

According to sources in Delhi, the mood in general is to ink a peace agreement and herald a new era of peace

and tranquility.

The delegation led by Rio reminded Amit Shah of BJP's 'Election for Solution' slogan in the 2018 state

elections and urged him to work for a conclusion to the Naga issue ahead of the ensuing polls.

They also said the Solution should be "honourable, acceptable and inclusive".

Planning Minister Kronu said the Core Committee also submitted to Shah the July 16 resolution.

The Point 3 of the statement of July 16 had said -- "The Parliamentary Committee appeals to the negotiating parties to refer to the competencies as reflected in the Framework Agreement of 3rd August 2015 signed between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM to arrive at a mutually acceptable definition of competencies to resolve this contentious issue at the earliest, and bring about a final solution that is honourable, acceptable and inclusive."
