G-7 Summit:
PM Narendra Modi called for global unity, leadership and solidarity and emphasized the special responsibility of democratic and transparent societies to prevent future pandemics.
He mentioned that there should be ‘One earth, One health’ approach, and this got echoed and endorsed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Modi also highlighted India's ‘whole of society’ approach to fight the pandemic, synergising efforts of all levels of government, industry and civil society.
He spoke of India’s successful use of open source digital tools for contact tracing & vaccine management, and conveyed India's willingness to share its experience and expertise.
The PM expressed India's commitment to support collective endeavours to improve global health governance.
Modi sought G7's support for proposal moved by India and South Africa at the WTO for a TRIPS waiver. Australia and others came out strongly in support of that.
PM also underlined India's emphasis on keeping open supply chains for vaccine raw materials and components to help enhance vaccine production in countries like India received widespread support.

GST Council sticks to 5 percent tax on vaccines, slashes tax rates on oxygen
The Goods and Services Tax Council, under the chairmanship of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on Saturday, June 11, decided to stick to 5 percent tax on vaccines, but slashes tax rates on oxygen, hand sanitisers and ambulances.
Here are the key decisions that were taken during the 44th GST Council meeting:
— The GST Council has agreed to stick to 5 per cent tax rate on vaccines.
— The Council has slashed the tax rate on Covid-19 medicines such as Remdesivir and equipment like oxygen concentrators and medical grade oxygen.
—GST rates on Tocilizumab and Amphotericin B have been slashed to nil from 5 per cent. The rate on Remdesivir and anti-coagulants like Heparin has been lowered from 12 per cent to 5 per cent.
—Tax on medical grade oxygen, oxygen concentrators, ventilators, BiPAP machines and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) devices has been cut to 5 per cent from 12 per cent.
—Tax on Covid testing kits has been brought down to 5 per cent from 12 per cent.
—Pulse oximeters, hand sanitisers, temperature check equipment and ambulances too will attract lower 5 per cent tax.
The meeting was also attended by Union Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur besides Finance Ministers of States & UTs and senior officers of the Ministry of Finance & States/ UTs.
