When nation building is linked to Security and Skilling Youths, one may call it Miracle -- they call it Manipur : Assam Rifles takes up Vocational Training

A few officials and junior soldiers of Assam Rifles in Manipur these days talk more about Skill Development.

One of them waxed eloquently: "Harnessing the potential of youth in Manipur especially young ladies through Skill Development is not just an economic imperative but also a pathway to stability and sensibility in conflict zones".

The Assam Rifles Skill Development Management programme had specific goals. They wanted to combine Skill Development with peace building efforts especially on the backdrop of ethnic conflicts and thus at the end of multiple such programmes - what they achieved were ---

ability to crate employment opportunities, promote economic resilience and encourage personal growth for young people grappling with the challenges of conflict and displacement in post 2023 Manipur.

Various segments were identified to work on. In one such initiative the 12-week course focused on practical, hands-on training in hospitality and retail management. Under this on completion of course graduates were given nationally recognised certification accredited by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

The programmes were undertaken in partnership with We Care Skill Solutions and Sunbird Trust.

We Care Solutions also assisted the participants later in job placements.

Assam Rifles in collaboration with the North East Skill and Entrepreneurship Development (NESEED) foundation, organised an event to mark the completion of a 45-day skill development program in Churachandpur District.

The program was carried out in this tension-gripped Kuki-dominated township from June 1, 2024 for 45 days.

Essentially this aimed to equip 60 students—30 each in the trades of Assistant Electrician and Construction Wall Painter—with industry-relevant skills to enhance their employability.

In another initiative women-led activities were taken up as a 'powerful force' for empowerment and economic uplift.

The Assam Rifles in 2024 conducted multi-faceted skills training programmes in various fields such as Baking, Candle Making and Tailoring. Organisations such as the All Manipur Women Social Reformation and Development Association too made their contribution.

As it is, we may note that the Handloom industry is the largest cottage industry in the state. According to the National Handloom Census report there were 2.81 lakh looms in Manipur. Most of the fabrics and shawls from the state are in great demand in the national and international market.
